i think the general preference is for the 449, but, for me, 448 hands down (if i could actually score one of the 750 examples, though). i only wish "california" and "vintage" weren't engraved on the rehaut.

might want to post this in the panerai sub-forum, though.....

Survivor 7 November 2012 01:55 AM

I already own a Pam 425.....just love the SLC dial and simple markers. I actually like the look of the 425 over the 449 but choosing between that and the 448, it would definitely be the 449.

Never been a fan of the California dial. Being born and raised here in SoCal, it looks like someone designed it while they were on acid :chuckle: Regardless, you can't go wrong with either

449 hands down. This might be better in the PAM forum though...

ooops, that was my intention, seems like I made a mistake :dummy:

TAKUYA 7 November 2012 03:02 AM

Can Mod move it to Panerai forum? so we can discuss more. i'm in the same situation as well.

karmatp 7 November 2012 04:23 AM

They are both pretty sharp, I have a really hard time deciding to be honest. The slight edge might go to the 449 today, but tomorrow it will be the 448.

z32turbo 7 November 2012 04:36 AM

I prefer the 448 California dial.

TSW 7 November 2012 05:14 AM

449 for me!

nauticajoe 7 November 2012 05:28 AM

Though the 449 is sharp, I prefer the 448.

Travelller 2 December 2012 05:41 AM

449!

The 2533 was, after all, the very first Officine Panerai... :smokin:

subtona 2 December 2012 06:08 AM

448.

Young Connoisseur 2 December 2012 06:19 AM

The 448 is the only Panerai that I've liked much.

448 for me easy.

dysondiver 2 December 2012 06:41 AM

that cal dial looks like its just trying too hard to be trendy , ill go plain with my vote.

khairain 3 December 2012 02:43 AM

Definitely 449...

Palmasea 3 December 2012 02:56 AM

448

cedric 3 December 2012 11:38 AM

Between the 2, defintely 449, defintely love the overall look.

P.S. 448 is too much a 249.

HDHNTER 14 December 2012 11:52 AM

I love the Cali. The 448 is also a less expensive 249!:chuckle:

you are absolutely right
And that is imo the problem

Panerai is screwing their most impotant clients, being the collectors.
Somebody who buys one or 2 Panerai watches, just to have an iconic Luminor like the 111 or Radiomir like the 183 won't see the problem
But those who buy quite a few and collect the so called limited editions will be pissed of one day.
There is NOTHING limited about Panerai anymore. Imagine you did not get a 249 from your AD but you really wanted one for your collection. You bought one second hand with a 100% premium but you're happy with your california dial.
A few years later they make another california dial in gold ... a few years later the 448 with inhouse calibre and at the same time the california 424.
Must give you a good feeling if you paid quite a lot of money for your LE 249 :banghead: There goes your 'special' dial.

Or what about the 26 and 28 ? Making exactly the same watch 2 times as a limited edition ? WTF ??

Or you bought a 339 because you thought it would be special because of it's composite case , today composite cases are standard production.

I wonder when they will release another bronze. Again, ,that will be great news if you bought a 382 with a HUGE premium

And the insane expensive 399 with Minerva movement. Wanne bet one day they will offer the same witch with a cheaper inhouse Panerai movement.

I was always a big Panerai fan but this is cooling down. Make no limited editions at all or keep them special for ever

travisb 14 December 2012 09:26 PM

449 for me.
Love that clean dial.

:twit: :twit: :banghead: :chuckle:

Excellent comments and straight to the heart of those who used to be collectors of PAM SEs like me.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I woke up the other day and decided to stop buying SEs anymore. Just not worth the money and efforts anymore.:bye:

You described me exactly! I bought a 249 and felt the sting with the new releases. Despite it, I still love the brand. Just wish they would release more 44mm watches!

This to me is the main reason that put the chill in my collector friends with regards to this brand. Granted the 448 offers me a chance to buy the Cali without the markup but its the markup that made the brand so niche and fun.

I wonder when the next shoe is going to drop?

I will always love the brand and for the people I met thru the brand...

I would rather pay few thousand more in the grey market to get the real Cali 249

The word VINTAGE and CALIFORNIA really ruins this 448. 249 is more classy and true to its roots, a Rolex movement similar to the vintage piece (now it's an ETA), plexi, and no stupid engravings (VINTAGE) and dial ring (CALIFORNIA).

Bilk22 16 December 2012 04:35 PM

I got to break the tie :)

I actually like both :)

Explorertwo 16 December 2012 05:51 PM
