Any History on this 12 Tribes of Israel Rolex Pen?
1 Attachment(s)
I purchased this sterling silver 12 Tribes of Israel Rolex pen. Does anyone have any history on this pen? When were they first produced? Why were they produced? Were they only produced in Israel? Was this a limited series?
Any info would be appreciated. It's not in any of my books. It also needs a refill. I'm thinking that a generic refill will work from a parker pen or something like that. Is this true? |

Similar to yours RARE VINTAGE STERLING SILVER BALLPOINT PEN - TRIBES OF ISRAEL made by Rolex Israel during the 1950s / 1960s The top is inscribed "Sterling Silver" and underneath " Tribes of Israel" At the bottom of the barrel there is Hebrew writing and "Made in Israel" A chain and tag attached to the top of the barrel says "Rolex Israel" The pen measures 12cm and is beautifully decorated. It comes in a plastic case marked "Rolex" http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/61111...OF_ISRAEL.html |
Now that is pretty cool

The Rolex branded Caran D'Ache 849s are the best pens they do.

Hey Dr.Linda,
As soon as I saw that pen,I knew I had one. It was given to me by a friend when I was in elementary school about 40 years ago. He brought it back from Israel. I never knew it had anything to do with Rolex. I knew exactly where I had it,but haven't touched it in many years. I opened it and it does say Rolex on the ink. |

These pens are made of solid sterling silver. Get some polish and polish it up and you will see how nice it comes out. Thanks everyone for the info. I love this pen and can't wait to use it. |

Update. The pen came "without" a refill. Obviously you can't find any. So, I figured out that it was a very fine tip point and only a vintage fine tip ink refill would work. I found one on ebay that belong to another pen brand. I snipped off the end and retrofitted a nub on the end of the ink refill so it would work and presto - I'm now writing with my Rolex pen. I also polished it with silver polish and it looks so amazing.

Linda, very nice and glad you were able to get it working. It does look good after being polished but I myself like the patina that develops from tarnish built up over years.....congrats and enjoy!!!

Wow the things I find about on this site. When I looked at this thread I recognized that they looked like 3 I found in my fathers in law dresser drawer after he passed away. I didn't think much at the time, so I went to get them and yup that's what they are. They are still in the original boxes. 2 of the boxes are marked Merkur and one box is marked Globus. Each the pen is a different style and the ink cartridge says ROLEX 78. I will post pics.

That's a great find Ray. Post pics. I just got a second one and it has the Rolex ink in it. I bought a Non-rolex ink refill and it works but the holes are very narrow at the top and only fit a vintage fine point or ultra fine point refill so I could only find a refill on ebay from someone who had some old ones with ink still left in them. I write with them daily but not all the time. |

Yes, Leo, I found them at two different times on eBay. Sometimes you can find them for $20 or sometimes $200. That's the range. Rarely do they work or have the original Rolex ink refill in them. They were made in the 60s. Most have dried up. So, I buy them knowing they don't work and rig them to work. I have to put a nub on the end of the refill which forces them to stay in the "on" position and then the pressure on paper usually forces them to write. I buy up old refills made for fine point small head pens and then rig them to work.
I love both of my pens and use them regularly. Since I saw someone's post about the patina (maybe it was you) I decided to keep one looking old and one looking new. |

I was searching for refills and was advised that Staples stocks a replacement which will work - MonteverdeŽ Medium Ballpoint Refill For Size-It Ballpoint Pens http://www.staples.com/Monteverde-Me.../product_78269 http://i44.tinypic.com/8zhh1g.jpg |

Silverolex
I posted a couple of weeks ago about a similar issue. Did you ever solve the problem?

Silverolex
I just received confirmation directly from Rolex that Silverolex pens were not manufactured by Rolex
