A crystal gasket oddity!!
Replacing the gasket on a sapphire crystal has become a bit crazy.
The watch is certainly an original and genuine Submariner 16800 transitional. New "O" ring and Clark gasket. With the crystal/gasket assembly pressed on, the retainer can be pressed nearly completely with fingers. The Clark gasket measures .559 mm. wall thickness and the original .610. Gary Clark has measured his products and a Rolex part and found them to be the same as his. Have I wondered into some strange dimensional timezone at Rolex? This will be a very hard thing to fix! |
I've experienced the same thing with acrylic crystals as well as replacement bezels; everything mics out but it still doesn't fit right.
It doesn't make sense but it happens just the same. Can't offer any whys, just some commiseration... |
that's is why i use original parts, you can spend hours trying to get the cheap stuff fit properly, it not worth my time, time is money also and with original parts they just fit properly first time everytime

I could not agree more!!! BUT some people can buy original parts and most can not. So in the end, for Rolex watches, this philosophy is empty.
