Watches and Musical instruments...

Someone posted a great pic of their Rolex around the peghead of their Fender... I thought I'd try the same...
I just love the subtlety of the AK! The "stereotypical wrist watch" - just what I wanted. |
The heck with the watch... more on your LP Black Beauty...  I had a 20th year anniversary model that I sold in the '70s. My bad...

It is real guitar porn I tell you! Fancy selling your anniversary model! Was it made in the 1970s? If so, then do't feel too bad as the quality of Gibson (and indeed Fender) was suffering a bit inthat decade - but, of course, they still turned out some wonderful instruments, just not quite as many as in other times (they were doing funny things like pancake bodies, multiple piece bodies, volutes and so on). I had a white 1974 LP custom and it was magnificent - on the other hand, I have also had a Gibson from that era that really was a tone turd... Sorry for raving :offtopic: |
Nice pics of your axes.I am into Fenders,Martins and Blue Subs.Peter

I show my drumkit and my watch at the same time :banghead:
It's difficult to capture both of them |

I actually traded my Gibson Les Paul Standard for an 18 k datejust! Watch was great but I honestly miss my axe!
|
I need to take some pictures of my Gibson Les Paul Custom , Paul Reed Smith Santana III, Taylor 814ce, and Takamine Hirade. Didn't know there's musicians here too, cool.

Well, OK OK OK then... There have been other threads where folks have posted pics of their instruments. I don't have a current 'gallery' of all of them but... I've got some 17 guitars right now. Time to thin the herd... :dummy:
|
I've a got a few spoons and a comb with some wax paper. :agree: :dummy:
I could put a few shots together with my Rolex if you guys want them. :bye: :wlae:  |
So you're also a KazooVet?

Just saw this thread and I need to know you guys - I'm a vintage guitar nutcase and new member. Check out the rarest guitar I've ever owned in my avatar - 1960 Gibson L5-CT - George Gobel.

Nothin' wrong with a black beauty!

There's quite a bit of lore that goes w/owning a Les Paul. Long tenon vs short tenon, all the series of pickups and various windings, etc. Not much different than vintage Rolex watches. There are certain 'grail' years and models, none of which do I own. I do know, despite the issues I had w/my anniversary model, its value today is considerably higher than my Std. Regardless, the Std. is starting to look vintage to some and has a lot of sentimental value to me...
Your L5 is another vintage Gibson w/lots of lore. Nice find  |
He's got it absolutely right - complex ol' business these vintage weapons! So I just work on the premise that if I can get it to sound good, and the neck feels right, then I'll have it! I just cannot get bothered with the ol' tenon discussions or pre-and post-PAFs and so on... I also got a '61 LP which I've lent to my bother in order to encourage him to learn to play the guitar, also knocking around is a mid 60s SG, a 61 SG junior, a 1989 Strat (lovely beast - looks like crap though) and other odds and sods...

How can you guys play those old boat paddles!? lol, just kidding. Im not a fan of Les Pauls. Been playing almost 15 years and Ive had every guitar under the sun and LPs and Fenders just feel odd and too bulky to me(altho I have a fender strat oddly enough)... Ibanez and Jackson are what I play now..I just don't have the Rollie to take a pic with it...one day though I'll post a pic of the arsenal (all 11 of them) with my watch. Anyone into Breedlove acoustics? I picked one up a year ago, best 800 bux I ever spent on an instrument! My Arsnenal includes:
1990 Dave Mustaine Signature Jackson King Vee 1997 Randy Rhoads Jackson Vee (RR-4) 2004 Randy Rhoads Jackson Vee (RR-3) 1994 Jackson JSX-84 Concept Sabre 2000 Fender Stratocaster w/ Floyd Rose and Scalloped Fretboard 1986 Charvel Dinky Strat 1990 Ibanez RT Series Strat 2006 Ibanez RG-250 Series Strat 1991 Ibanez Vee w/ Polka Dots Yamaha 112 Strat (First Electric guitar) Breedlove AC25-SM Cutaway Elec/Acoustic Like some of you with watches, I cant stop!!! |
Well, I always had the same draw to Gibson & Fender as I did with Rolex - just had to have them!
But boy, is the LP a boat anchor...!! Get a lot of wood for the money! |
I've been playing nothing but acoustic lately. Grabbed my LP for the above pic and just about got a hernia... I forgot what a brick it was. Having played professionally for some 20 years, I wonder how I did it now. No wonder my back complains on occasion. As for Ibanez, Peavey, Alvarez, Squire and other 'more affordable' brands. There are many that play and sound great for the money. The 'art' of electric guitar making is less elusive than ever before. There are many sub $1k guitars that are entirely suitable for professional use nowadays. Names like Gibson, Fender, PRS and others offer quality and value but aren't necessarily required. I see a lot of Takamine guitars used by some pretty accomplished folks (Pat Metheny for one). Besides, everybody knows, it's not the axe, it's the musican. Nothing thrills me more than seeing a bunch of beat up old equipment and, when the band starts, they just blow you away...
Yes, Breedlove. Many like them, I don't own one. Don't like their cutaway asthetics. Another underrated affordable acoustic is Seagull. As a starter guitar, the Seagull S6 is a good value. |
Did somebody say Les Paul Custom? Here is my '73 Black Beauty Custom.

Oh God! look at that lovely pride of LPs! I am SO envious!! All yours?! I guess anyone reading this thread will appreciate what you got there.
I bow humbly to your deities!!! |
All but one. I had to sell one of the '54 Juniors last year (the guitar in the second photo). That hurt!
But there is a happy plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills right now. |
Poor quality cell phone pic...
But still kinda cool http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...34562854_0.jpg |
