First PAM - 422 (MANY pics)! And I seem to have gone a little overboard...

... on the straps! There are just so many color combos and makers that I had to try a few of them right off the bat. This is going to be a long post with lots, lots of photos! :thumbsup:

First, a very nice, handmade, strap case by Rob Montana (The Strap Smith):

http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...823_142016.jpg

In case anyone is curious, the straps are, from left to right (the last two are for other watches):

1. OEM PAM rubber;
2. Dangerous 9's 1926 ammo strap on a Roland Kobalia .950 silver buckle with X mas logo (this one will get a thread of it's own, what an amazing piece of history);
3. PAM Assolutamente strap;
4. Stone Creek's rolled edge black gator;
5. Gunny's super smooth black calf;
6. Stone Creek's black ammo (mounted on the watch);
7. Ted Su's greyish/blue croco;
8. Mario Paci's grey distressed;
9. Kain Heritage's dusky brown with dlc buckle

Here are some group shots of the watch and all the straps:

Some gratuitous lume shots:

And, finally, the gorgeous case back:

http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...823_182704.jpg

I have had the watch for a little while now, and can honestly say it is surprising how well it wears, since the case is 47mm and my wrist is about 6.7". The manual wind caliber allows for a thinner case (although I wouldn't call it thin :chuckle:) and is really smooth to wind.

The PR complication on the back of the case is ingeniously beautiful, as it doesn't affect the dial's looks and is an ultra useful feature to have on a manual wind, 72 hour reserve movement. Not to mention the gold hand on the pr indicator looks gorgeous.

Whether or not you like the designs, it seems indisputable that Panerai makes very unique watches, full of their own personality and totally distinct from everything else in the market. I find that extremely cool. The fact that this reference is a direct descendant of a 1950's watch is also a big part of why I chose it; it amazes me that this design was being worn 60 years ago. :dude:

The highly polished case is beautiful, with very pronounced angles which make it unique, but the bezel does pick up hairline scratches relatively easily. Not that anyone should care, though, as a well worn pam oozes style, imo.

This is proving to be a great casual watch and one I am thoroughly enjoying so far.

Thanks for reading!

Hey, Toph, I remember looking at your pictures of the 422 when I was making my mind up on the ref I was going to get. Thanks!

It's such a nice watch, I'm a bit sorry I sold mine but I got the 514 and then 515 instead. The radiomirs with lugs (1940's case) are a very nice shape.
But they don't have the power reserve display:crying:
:cheers:
Enjoy

True, the PR on the back is awesome. But that red gold beauty of yours surely makes up for it! Cheers!

Congrats on your 1st PAM Kauê - the 422 us a great choice and was on my short list :clap:

I love the dial, sapphire dome crystal, reverse-side PR (gold hand, too!) :smokin: And talk about a serious collection of straps - love the diversity! The D9 ammo and Ted Su blue-grey just :dude:

Enjoy it all, T4S and welcome to the club :cheers:

Billythekid 28 August 2014 11:21 PM

Great choice

Love the 422, congrats... great strap choices. I love my grey distressed MP. Although, not really feeling a PVD buckle with a 422, just my opinion tho.

Are all your straps 26/22 in regard to lugs/buckle size?
