Steel Question on 14270 & 114270

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the steel in the previous two Explorer models. Does anyone know what steel was used in the Explorer 14270 and 114270? I'm curious when 904L steel became standard, whether it varied between models, and whether either model is partially or fully 904L steel.

Thanks!

Late 1980s for the Submariner (168000). I'm pretty sure the 14270, introduced in 1990, is all 904L. The 114270 certainly is.

Thanks very much for the reply! I've been researching the Explorer heavily recently... I have been itching for a new watch and I have loved the model from a distance for years.

Do you, or anyone else, know if the links on the 14270 and 114270 are hollow or solid? I know that the 14270 had hollow end links, and the 114270 had solid end links, but I'm not sure about the rest of the links. I'm hoping that these models are lighter overall than the latest explorer, and not just because the case is a bit smaller :).

The bracelet links are hollow on both.
