HUGE Panerai versus tiny Rolex...

After a long weekend rockin' the PAM, it always feels weird putting on anything smaller (and lighter!). Even the Sub seems small at times.

Heck, even other 44mm watches seem small in comparison...

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...0597Medium.jpg

I think I have just become a full-fledged Paneristi.

MikeyDe 27 May 2008 08:16 PM

Yeah I saw my buddies daytona last weekend for first time. My Panerais are monsters compared to it. They look so small to me now. I saw a 40mm Panerai in Vegas and even that was bigger than the Rolex. By the way I dont know model #, but the all titanium and blue face Panerai is sweet in person. Too bad its 40mm.

Thani 27 May 2008 10:25 PM

i think its time you said goodbye to your other watches

Markg 28 May 2008 01:14 AM

i went trying on pams at the AD this weekend. when i was done, i put my daytona back on, and wondered why the dial looked so small.....

oneillba 28 May 2008 02:52 AM

As I get older and my eye sight gets worse, then I know what to look for in a watch. They are beautiful watches, I must agree.

jodaor 28 May 2008 03:37 AM

It's an addiction.

Once you go to Panerai then you will continue to go up in size. I found myself only looking at 44mm and above watches after owning a 44mm and a 47mm Panerai.

Now I find myself looking at 50mm watch brands like U-Boat etc. As the size of the watch gets bigger, the more of a conversation piece it becomes.

Nothing against Rolex because they have their direction, but I cannot wear any of my Rolex's anymore because they just feel akward. I hope it is something I grow out of though....

-CHEERS!

hienpham04 28 May 2008 04:29 AM

Hmmm....Recently, I purchased my first Panerai and the Rolex seems a lot smaller to me. I looked at my President and thinking that's why Rolex came out with a newer, bigger President. I still love Rolex, but Panerai is unique in it's own way. Both brands are nice!

Maybe it's my eye sight, Panerai dial looks really good and clear :chuckle: My girlfriend said PAMs are so nice, but she think they made it for the blind & giggle

SPACE-DWELLER 28 May 2008 06:11 AM

I really, really do my very best to try to keep out of the Panerai discussions' threads, but I simply can't help having an occasional peep inside.

And when I do.... :

Then I want a Panerai badly! :banghead:

Scarface 28 May 2008 07:53 AM

I love them too

Downing 28 May 2008 11:07 AM

If you trade in your Sub for a Sea-Dweller, the weight difference between your Pam and your Rolex would be less dramatic.

Just a thought--and worth every penny you paid for it!

Hmmm... now there's an idea. Anybody want to trade a Z series sub for a SD? :agree::agree::agree:

How much do you think I would need to add for a similarly clean SD?

Magik 31 May 2008 04:17 AM

Now that I've got two Rollies, I am considering Panerai, but boy do I want a SS Daytona. What to save up for? Hmmmm...

MassiveAttack 1 June 2008 12:07 AM

that's it, im getting a PAM

Jeff Joan 17 June 2008 01:50 AM

2 reasons why I am selling my Rolex GMT II:

1)Rolex now looks tiny on my wrist after sporting my 44mm
2)Finance my PAM 000

I don't think I could ever where anything smaller than a 44MM. Gotta love the Panerai's!

TswaneNguni 17 June 2008 04:54 AM

AD got a 104 in (The 104 is one of the most manufactured/year @ 4000/annum,but are popular and can be scarce).Pre-increase,AD was prepared to give a nice discount ... bought it !! When I started wearing it,I soon realized,it was the end of my Rolex years ... THIS is what I liked !! Sold the Rollies post-increase and bought the PAMs pre-increase.At that stage the AD also had a very nice selection in stock .... Sometimes things just all fall into place, all at once .

I've got the 44mm Panerai for my 7.25 inch wrist, it seems fine, but it is titanium.

I would definitely entertain a 47mm especially the PAM127 as that looks to have a flatter profile so I expect it would sit nice and flat on ones wrist.

However, the PAM127 is just quite a bit more than I can justify to myself at least for the time being. Maybe one of these days Panerai will bring out a PAM127 style watch with a date feature (non-cyclops) at about the 4:30 mark. Then I will really be cooking

leopardprey 27 June 2008 04:26 PM

My obervation Steve, to keep in mind, with the 47mm watches is the crown. I tried on a 47mm 127 and that extra 1.5mm on each side made a difference. Found the crown guard cutting a bit into the back of the wrist and restricting wrist movement. At least for me, based on how my wrist is designed and the placement of my wrist bone, there is a spot watches always sit on.

You might want to check out the 233. I have one and wore it for 3 straight months in afghanistan with no issues. Has the 1950 style case, 8 day movement, and a date feature. One nice feature of the 233 that does not get mentioned, is on the 233 Panerai uses a antique vintage white color for the date and dial printing, compared to the brighter white print used on other Panerai watches. Plus the 233 goes for half the current market price of a 127. Though the 127 and 217s are nice, I do not believe the current prices are justified for what you get.

44mm is an ideal size if you have between a 7 inch and 8 inch wrist.

Lol-x 27 June 2008 04:31 PM

Thanks Chad I'll check the 233 out

LOL, I forgot to add my wifes 219 into the picture, so It isn't quite the complete collection.

leopardprey 28 June 2008 12:51 PM

what is up with the 219 and Panerai Owners wives? Your like the 4th Panerai owner I know who's wife has a 219??!! I guess, the crown on the other side is easier wearing for thier smaller wrist.

Actually my wife is a lefty, so she fell in love with the crown on the "proper" side of the watch, In her opinion

I have a small wrist. Pam seems to be very big compare to rolex GMT. When I'm getting used to my Pam. My Gmt seems to be quite tiny. Currently, I just felt in love with Pam badly, Pamaholic!

The last PA meeting .....(PAMaholics Anonymous)

"Hello,my name is Sipho and I am a Pamaholic.." Chorus: "HELLO SIPHO ....!!!!!":chuckle::rofl:

Now thats the problem, had a relatively substantial "small watch" collection.Bought the 104 and I just knew,it was the end of "the others".Switched completely to PAM
