Daytona Questions

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and am learning a lot. I tried doing a lot of reading and searching before asking questions but still have a few. I apologize if these are noob questions. I'm very new to the Rolex world and just getting my feet wet.

I love the Daytona. I understand the rarity of the SS White and Black faces. I like the black a bit more. As I search around though I am finding some with "Arabic Racing" dials. I like these a bit more as they have the numbers and also the red hands. It stands out a bit more and I like that. My questions are as follows:

1. When I go to rolex.com I can't seem to "configure" a SS model with this dial. Why is that? Did it exist at one time and no longer does or is a SS model with Arabic due to someone changing the dial?

2. Assuming it is factory....are these more rare than the already rare SS White and SS Black models?

Finally, I understand the whole AD buying experience however obviously I'm not going to find one of these SS Daytonas easily via that route. Other than the trusted sellers here are there reputable online dealers? (eg. luxuryofwatches or bobswatches).

Thanks in advance everyone. With your help I'm going to be diving in and buying something very very soon! I can't wait.

I wouldn't consider an SS Daytona "rare". Just fast sellers at an AD.

Good point. Bad choice of words.

Lots of folks put WG dials on SS Daytonas.

First of all, welcome. The dial configuration you're talking about is only available on the white gold (WG) model. So you can't configure it on the website.

Now, if you want that look, you can mod the SS by sourcing the WG dial (and red hands) and having it installed by an independent watch maker.

Finally, I wouldn't consider any modern Rolex "rare", just some are a little tougher to get at the AD. There are plenty of them for sale here in the classifieds.

Great info. Thanks for the clarification and information! That helps me as I'm definitely going to stay away from one that has been installed by an unknown source.

You're welcome. I wouldn't say necessarily you would need to stay away from a modded watch...if that's what you want. If it's being sold by a reputable seller, odds are it's been professionally done.

What is a turn off for some potential buyers is the fact that Rolex won't service a modded watch and that if it is within the warranty period, it would void the warranty.

Good luck in your search!

If you do mod the watch keep the original dial and hands, you can always put them back to get the watch serviced by Rolex.

Since its launch with the in-house movement cal 4130 in 2000 I would say today there must be many hundreds of thousands in this world so hardly rare black dial seems more popular in Asia.Afraid no modern day Rolex is rare just some a bit harder to find than others, and would expect one of our trusted sellers could have one on your wrist is a few days at a better price than most any AD..
