IWC BP vs PAM 233

Hi TRF,
I am blessed to have an opportunity to acquire another piece. I am on the fence between acquiring the 2016 IWC Big Pilot (5009 with the number 9) or PAM 233 (am/pm). Here are my current humble collection to give you an idea of what I currently have: Black face SS Daytona, Yachtmaster, SubC, PAM 425 and PAM 557. I love both of them equally and acquiring both is not an option. Thanks TRF for your invaluable inputs.

The Iwc pilot is very nice but between this two I will go 233 you have 2 Pams 47mm so 233 at 44mm is amazing piece good luck

Since you have 3 rolexes and a couple of PAMs already, I'd suggest another watch brand and an IWC BP is the perfect choice. Admittedly, I'm biased. I have a BP and simply love it. I believe the MSRP on the new model is significantly cheaper, so even more reason to pick one up since it's the same movement and case with an updated face. :)

Both awesome pieces but the 233, but you are asking on a panerai sub forum

Changstaz 5 May 2016 10:14 AM

When I was looking at the IWC BP, I was also shown a PAM233... and I bought the 233...

Although, I would still look into a big pilot in the future! Just at that moment in time, that 233 was impossible to resist.

Tough one due to your collection. In a vacuum and can only be one, the 233 for sure, but given what you have, if the BP fits you well, I probably would get that one since the 233 does not appear to be a "must have" for you. Good luck with the choice!

I own both a 233 and a Big Pilot (500902).

If I had to pick one, it'd be the 233. Hands down.

kilyung 8 May 2016 07:48 AM

Having owned both, I'd get the 233 again.

jakerusty 8 May 2016 12:27 PM

233 is simply a beautiful watch.

233 but I had the dot version which is nicer IMO than the AM/PM, if you can get one, especially they're much cheaper, go for it

simongpaez 11 May 2016 11:22 PM

I love these 2 pieces a must have in any collection.

I used to have both. I still have my 233. If my wrist didn't shrink so much, I would have kept the BP. They are both awesome and iconic

Sorry. That probably didn't help. Depends on your collection. The 233 is more of a daily wearer. Good luck

I feel there would be room for either in any collection! But if I had to choose one, 233.

Thank you all for the invaluable feedback. After trying both side by side, I pulled the trigger on the new 2016 IWC Big Piot with the new dial (with 9 and original index position) and strap (non-croc). Pics to follow.

Trurolexer 18 May 2016 03:52 AM

Both great. But I will go for Big Pilot

jagwap 4 July 2016 09:35 AM

I had the same decision years ago, and took the 233.

Years later I couldn't stop looking at IWC, and just picked up the new ceramic pilot ceramic. I like the ceramic big pilot but it is still a bit big for every day.

Billythekid 5 July 2016 12:44 AM

The 233 is a classic pam imo you will enjoy it much more than the BP

daytonaTBR 6 July 2016 07:17 AM

I would go big pilot

He already did.

pics please!

Both are great but the 233 has more of an emotional feel (to me) than the BP. I had a 233 and regret ever selling it.

IWC BP vs PAM 233

Bravo! IWC is my new love. I have 6 Rolex and was looking at acquiring the new Daytona C, but it is easier to come up with $13k than to actually get the watch.

my Pilot Chrono 3777-09 is the perfect size at 43mm. Once I learned that the IWC PC used a highly modified 7750 ETA, I was sold.

I can't take this watch off! I went back to my GMT IIc yesterday and the watch felt tiny.

I bought my pre-loved 233 at a reasonable price.. And really happy with that. Compared to IWC it is much more beautiful IMO..

I'd go for the Big Pilot.

Congratulations! I love the BP. Tried on the new version in Vegas recently and really fell for it. On my list for sure!
