233 vs 270 Poll!
3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys thanks for all the great and helpful posts...
thought it would be great to have poll to make a final decision for which Panerai out of the 233 or 270 would be the best to get for my first Panerai.. I've also thrown in a 242 into the poll for something completely different... cheers! |
From your post, you seem to be more of a 270 guy, but perhaps influenced by what others think?
You should get the one you want. I got the 270 and finding no desire to get a 233. However, if I had the 233, I may want the 270. BTW, definitely NOT the 242. |
i voted for the PAM 242- i like the classic look
|
I've only seen the 233 in pictures, but that domed crystal does it for me....
I've tried the 242 on a few times in Norwich, and it looks nicer in the pictures, (but what do I know cos I really like the 241.....even if it does have a 40mm dial). |
233 vs 270.Its a question of whether the 270 is worth the extra $$$ over the 233.Thats all. Both,IMO,are very nice.
Now the 242 .... (I am a bit biased .. :chuckle::chuckle: ) My "daily wearer",alternated with the 104,with the 231 worn about once a week. Manufactured in 2006 ,with a Jaeger le-Coultre movement.Part of the contemporary range and 300 made in 2006.Destinctive with its double crowns in 45mm,internal rotating 24h ring, exceptional 3D dial, very fine cyclops, very unobstrusive 24h hand thats still easy to read and retaining that "simple" look a PAM,should have. Added to that the fact that there are only 300 of them. That makes it lesser in numbers than most special editions.Never intended to be limited,it turned out to be very limited. |
Forgetting price and availability, its a straight choice.
233 if you want manual wind 270 if you want auto. All the other little differences wont make you disappointed with the one you choose or make you want the other one IMO. Unless you're at a Panny GTG you probably wont see either on the street/in the pub whatever anyway. So you wont be disappointed comparing yours with another. If you don't get in the next 2 weeks it'll go up 7%! |
I also voted for the 242. Something about the power reserve meter reminds me of an old AM-FM radio station dial.
|
I voted for the 242.

270!
1. To my knowledge, there is no brand or watch that I know of which has a 10 days power reserve AUTOMATIC movt! 2. You can change another 9-10 watches every day for 9-10 days and NO NEED to wind or adjust the 270. For the 233, it was known to have almost a 10 days power reserve too though it was stated 8 days. BUT.....get ready to sit down and wind about 90-120 turns to have the 233 fully wound.:dummy: I hate winding and winding 90-120 turns is too much for me!:crying: 3. I prefer not to get any Radiomir models. Cos the crowns must be treated with EXTRA care, there were cases owners broke the stem or crown base due to over-screwing it back. :thumbsdow JMHO. |
if you alow me to add one ... the 232
still affordable today , will become more expensive in the future And concerning the looks, imo the most beautifull basic you can get |
Now that I have acquired a 270 I can say that the 233 dial looks better IMHO. The 270's numbers are just smaller and not as sexy; however, I will probably were the 270 more due to ease of use.

233.
I was sooo close to buying one, but figured I could get 2 or 3 other panerai for the same price. The little "moon" window is neat and is not on the 270. To me the dial looks better and more balanced. I also thought the movement was gorgeous through the caseback, and I think the rotor of the 270 hides some of that beauty. BTW, the other main thing that held me back was the "200+" or so winds I was told it would take to wind it up. Definitely go with whichever one you like best though! |
[QUOTE=watchboy;724744]I am sure you can trade it with someone who has a 233. There were several posts WTT 233 for 270 lately.
I own both a 233I and 270J. |
I only have one pam , the 8 days, i will never part with it, I have ben waiting on a 292 for over a year,

I do not deny the movt of 233 is nice but in order to ENJOY that, I guess you have to take out your watch often OR to put it in a display stand or face down not wearing it!:twit: |

I think it's my winding technique, I don't get a huge amount of twist per wind. I forget which review I read stated the 200+. Nonetheless, I would still like to own one someday  It just has to fit somewhere in there with a 243, 194, 127, and others I have lined up in the wish-list! |
Thats a no brainer 270 with a black strap though. IMHO the 270 is the most beautiful Panerai
|
Sorry for bringing back an old thread but I am in the same situation.
I dont know if I want to deal with the 90-120 winds. I do like the day night indicator better on the 233 though. Perhaps a regular PAM GMT or a 98 would be a wise choice for me The crowns on the Rad just hold me back from the 98 though.... |
haha...same here....thinking ahead of either getting the 233 or 270 after my 111 arrives. hmmm, maybe I shouldn't think so far ahead.
|
I voted for the 242 b/c I tried on my first Radiomir this weekend and it felt great  I love the look of the 233 & 270 but there's something about the 242 that catches my eye :smokin:
|
270 for me too!
|
Does anyone know production #s on the 233 or 270?
Also, what is the longest auto power reserve? |
233!!!
|
233 without a doubt, infact i had that choice and went for the 233.
In my own personal opinion i just like the dial better as it's clearer due to the lack of the 9, the dot indicator and no second hand on the sub dial, and the movement looks nicer without the rotor in front of it. Yes it's a manual wind but with a 233 or 270 you'll not be leaving it for 8 days sat on the side, you'll want to wear it and you'll keep it wound up. The 270 is a lovely watch as well, if i had the money i'd buy one as well, well maybe not, i'd buy the 289 which is the rose gold version of the 233  |
