Out of warranty

Hello everyone,

My 5167 is having power reserve issues. I'd like to bring it in to Henry stern, but it's a little less than 3 years old and out of warranty. Has anyone had a similar situation, and did HSWA honor the warranty, even though it expired 10 months ago?

If they don't honor it, I'm thinking of going to war with them because this is the third piece I've brought in for service within the past year; I had a similar power reserve issue with my 5711 and the pushers weren't working on my 5164.

Thanks for your help!

Ian

Did you buy it new from an AD?

jon_jon 8 October 2016 05:34 AM

If you purchased it from an AD, speak with the AD and see what they can do for you.

Third piece in a year. I'd be pissed.

Yes sir.

Clearly, you are a good customer with some bad luck. I would take it in and press hard. Three in one year is unacceptable.

Lol. It was 2 had a PR issue - both basic 324 movements. The other had a travel time pusher issue.

You are an excellent customer, and I hope they work with you. On a side note, has 3 issues in one year changed your view of PP? I hope they are isolated, but I'm not sure I would continue to invest in them, if I personally experienced repeated problems like this.

I'm definitely annoyed, but having a collection makes it more palatable to have one in for service. This, of course, if they fix it for free.

What also annoys me is when the rep at HSWA "consults" a watchmaker and comes back two minutes later telling me the watch is fine. Obviously, if it was fine, I wouldn't make a trip to HSWA.

But, my view of the brand is unchanged because of this situation. (I have other issues with PP such as the price cuts and depreciation) I'm of the belief that all mechanical watches have issues, based on my experience with numerous high-end brands. They are complicated machines, just the way cars are. Maybe I'm being naive or just rationalizing the situation, but that's just how I think about it.

AD should take care of it for you if HSWA says it's going to cost anything.

texex91 8 October 2016 07:07 AM

Keep us updated and as mentioned work with your AD in this case.

Vipes 8 October 2016 07:23 AM

My 5711 was a few months past the 2 year warranty. It developed the sticking date again. My AD sent it to HSWA and they are fixing it without charging me. I asked my AD to mentioned that this is the 2nd issue with the sticking date and I also had an issue with a new 5980r.

I would try the AD route first. Good luck and keep us posted.

Snow-Dweller 8 October 2016 07:36 AM

Good luck to you.

This sounds like yet another great story of PP's current qc and reliability issues.

AK797 8 October 2016 09:28 AM

I think they will see you right as you've had 2 other issues, this will be a goodwill gesture I think but yes, wage your war if you must.

arejay 8 October 2016 09:43 AM

I would discuss it with your AD and maybe something can be done on your behalf. Talking directly to them probably won't help. Sometimes, your AD can pull some miracles especially since you're a repeat customer.

If it is any consolation, I just sent my 5164 in for power reserve issues and losing 5-10 minutes a day. Mine was only 9 months old.

Update: I spoke to my AD and he will handle it free-of-charge.

Now, only 6-8 weeks to wait for my watch back! [emoji57]

Hairdude1 19 October 2016 07:57 AM

I would work with the AD and make sure they explain this being the third issue

6-8 seems like miracle timing. Report back to see if they fall within range. Sorry to learn of the third mishap. Sadly machines as you say, longer in this game you find out happens to a lot of manufacturers products.

You sir are a patient and understanding man. I recently flipped a Daytona C because the chrono second sweep hand was 1/5th of a second off 12 o clock when not activated.

6-8 weeks? Now that's what you call thinking positive when it comes to Patek after service :chuckle: anyways great they do it for free and you have other cool watches to wear

Lol really? I would have kept it for such a minor defect, but probably not if it was a 30K or more PP or AP...

Yes really. OCD personality. It was brand new and every time I saw it, I only saw the sweep second hand off the center crown.

Not gonna let RSC open a brand new watch.

Anyway flipped it at cost after 3 days of owning it. Plus the Daytona chrono pushers are well let's say not buttery smooth. Lol
