Pam 1312 vs 312 size & color dilemma...
4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
I am new to the forum and new to panerai. Looking to make my first panerai watch purchase and I need some help... I have been doing research online (exhaustively), and have visited my local AD for the "in person" experience. I initially went in with heart set on the 312. I tried both the 312 and 1312 and I preferred the overall aesthetic and cleaner look of the 312 dial, but much preferred the thinner fit of the 1312... but I was just not sure of the ecru color, blue second hand and "automatic" written on dial... although it isn't that obstrusive in person, it still has me thinking Why couldn't they just make the 312 exactly the same (or even with the ommision of the date and the "9") with the new 1312 case size?? Is there another model that can satisfy those criteria? I keep thinking I'll just get the bigger 312 case, then I read countless articles of owners that say it's hard to live with height and too heavy case on daily basis. Perhaps I'll learn to love the blue second hand and fake patina of 1312, and live with it because it's a more comfortable fit. Perhaps match more straps with blue and brown I welcome all advice FYI, wrist size is 7 1/2" Thank you! |
Welcome aboard between this two I would go 312 nicer dial bigger and thicker

been wearing the 1950's case for almost 7 years....it's an awesome piece, good luck
|
For me, hands down the 312.
I am really not a fan of the blue seconds hand. The acrue colouring is nice but somehow doesn't sit with the blue hand for me. Just my 2 cents though :) |
312

It's a nice dilemma to have ...
I have owned the 1312 since Jan and I must say the slimmer version of 312 is soo much more comfortable to wear.I've been using as my daily watch since Jan. I actually like the blue seconds hand and also the ecru dial. I'm so glad I got the 1312 over the 312. Just my opinion ....good luck with your search |
Hands down 1312
Its got the patina color markers plus the case size is perfect fit.. I had the 320 which is exactly the 312 but with get and I found it too top heavy.. Got sick of it and sold it.. |
My advice is to keep looking.... no point in getting a watch if you have any doubts.
|
I had a 359 which is the same case as the 312. It was super top heavy for me (mind you I have a 6.5" baby wrist). For me, I could feel the head of the watch jiggle with any wrist/arm movements.
I'd go 1312 although I am not a huge fan of the dirty dial/blue seconds combo. |
It is a dilemma.
I personally would go with the 312 on the merits that it does not have "automatic" on the dial. Not too keen with the faux patina, although the blue seconds looks great with 1312. Size wise, yes 312 is heavy and thicker but it does give a wrist presence. Think you would get used to it. Good luck with your decision. |
1312 for much improved case proportions

Thank you so much guys for all the Feedback.
Why would they not just make the 1312 with the 312 face???!! Why mess with a good thing? Or better yet, why not make the 422 or 372 in a 44mm size?? Those rose gold hands!!! ( I have not tried them on, but I think 47 may be too big (IMHO) I'm going to dealer again (for the 3rd time lol) this weekend to make the decision... hopefully Am I missing a model I should be looking at ?? Something in the size of the 1312 in a 44mm case size, clean face, no gmt, no power reserve, and preferably automatic (not a deal breaker) Thanks again |

I want to love and I keep going back to 312 but I think I may regret the size eventually |

Switched from the 312 to 1312 & couldn't be happier. The new case size makes all the difference.

the thing is .. if its not comfortable, you won't wear it. But if you don't like how it looks, you won't wear it ... to me, the thinner case is the winner. I tried on the 359, I love the look except for the thickness. 1359 may be the ticket for me.
|
Sold my 312 because it was too top heavy and thick. So that is out for me. Colours also don't work for on the 1312.
Honestly there are a lot choice out there and if you have doubts save your money and keep looking for something that really works for you. Some times walking away is actually the best decision. |
If you're not really sold on either one of them, the third option is to "pass" and search for another model. There are lots to choose from. Make sure you buy something you're content with.

A 312 is everything a PAM should be and ticks the boxes.
Worn mine in rotation for two years and absolutely love it and the other end of the scale being a 36mm IWC 3741. I can never see me parting with it. Wes |

I have never been a fan of Rolex, and I have never been a fan of Panerai. And never again, will I say never...
I was out browsing and just looking to see what watches are there in the market and was just trying out the hulk and the yachtmaster to see if they sing to me. And right in the next display was this beauty. I knew right away I had to bring her home. Never in my life would I have imagined that my puny six and a half inch wrist would be able to carry a 44mm watch, let alone a PAM. I have always been fascinated by a PAM but never enough to purchase one. Well, let’s just let the pictures do the talking. And here is a side by side with my GMTiiC LN to make a size comparison. Long story short, this 1312 is just lovely... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9f619bc6d5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a563eebc20.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
I am torn, but because I am not a big fan of the blue I would go with the 312. I think the acru coloring makes the 1312 pop though. If you don't mind the blue hand I would go with the 1312. The acru would look great on a brown strap.
Also, although I have never owned one or wore one on a daily basis, those 1950 cases are heavy and bulky when I have tried them on before. Regarding another model, how about the 422. With a 7.5 inch wrist you can probably handle the 47mm size. |
