2008 two tone Submarine - FAKE or REAL?

Hey guys!

I just joined this group and really hope you can help me on a purchase I am about to make. The watch is a 2008 two tone submariner, the gentlemen is asking 10,750 Canadian, he sounds like a complete gentlemen and I am committed to the purchase, just want to know if you guys can tell if it is real? I know there is a lot of good fakes going around and just want to feel assured to know it's real. What do you guys think? And what should I look for when I see the watch in person? Thank you!

Any pictures available?

The price seems right. Make sure you get the gox and papers if possible. For 2008, the bracelet should have hollow center links. Also, the end link that connects to the watch should be solid. The clasp should have gold all the way through the center. Bracelets are a really good indicator for authenticity on the TT models. Also, remove bracelet at 12 o'clock side of the watch head will be the model number 16613 and on the 6 o'clock side will be the serial number which will match the paperwork. I also recommend googling pictures of the things I mentioned so you will know what I am saying. Good luck and congratulations!

Without pictures, nothing stands out as fake (or real).

You are kidding
How could anyone comment on authenticity with out photos.
Its hard enough to make assumption with a photo - without is IMpossible.

This. There are too many fakes and just as many scammers out there to risk this kind of cash IMHO.

And around Toronto there are great dealers who will sell you examples of this watch for that price or less, everyday.

Anyone else??

Nice looking Serti.

Jaycnyp 12 June 2017 09:02 AM

From the pics, it appears authentic, if the serial number matches the paperwork I think it's good. Congratulations! And thinking about this makes me miss my 16613.

Some of these seri dials are suspect. This one is good, if it genuine factory Rolex, can't confirm. It could be a higher end aftermarket/custom/"refinished" dial.

I'm going to get the watch opened up at a rolex reseller, what do we have to look for inside the watch when we open it up? Anything in specific?

If its a ROLEX movement they can tell immediately.
If unsure take photos of it - especially the balance wheel. and post here.

Best

You can see the brassing on the top plate (left side and all round) where the rotor has been rubbing VERY badly

Gtecko 15 June 2017 11:33 PM

thanks for the quick answer @GLADIATOR , I actually never seen this before so this is good to know. are you referring to the black lines on the rotor( kinda fingerprint looking?)
is that caused from a lose rotor shaving off the back of the watch ?

No
Its NOT the rotor that is marked BUT the plate under neath it.
Look for brassing (gold where it should be steel color)

Gtecko 16 June 2017 12:29 AM

totally see that now @gladiator !! thank you friend.
what usually causes this to open and what are the long term issue with this ?

The bearings are worn on the rotor.
Rotor will not spin easily, so watch will not wind efficiently.
In time noisy.

But this is not a watch class. So no more from me

Great attitude.

A lot of your advice and opinions should be taken with caution anyways.
