Is the new SD43 one of the top three dive watches on the planet?
I vote yes.
|
That is highly subjective.
|
If you need the valve cool, otherwise another place for water to leak in. I Sport Dive, don't need the valve with it's cost or opportunity for leaks.
Just my .02 |
I do still believe- the Deepsea is far top then SD43

depends....
what do you consider YOUR top 3 and what the criteria? On pure depth rating, it would not be top 3 |
YES!!After having mine for a couple of weeks I must say that it is the best diver I've owned. Perfectly made. Rolex got it right!
|
Probably. Lets face it, how many decent dive watches are currently being produces? The entire "tool watch" genre is a lot more show than go these days.
Even so, I'd still take any previous version of the Sea Dweller over this new one. |

My friend, a serious diver, said he wears a dive computer and a water proof Timex. My guess is that a microscopic percentage of Rolex dive watches get much deeper than the deep end of the pool.

"Who likes the red text, wider bracelet, and bigger size" just doesn't sound as cool I guess. |

Here's my thought.
Of all the dive watches manufactured in the world, the SD43 is........... one of them. :chuckle: Sorry, couldn't resist. |

I have 7 divers, SD43 included.
1. PO2500C XL : almost a classic but SD43 wins 2. Seawolf (3,000m) built like a tank: Seawolf wins. 3. Crepas Cayman (3,000m) built like a submarine: Cayman wins 4 Perrelet Seacraft Chrono (same movement as AP RO): heavy duty but SD43 wins 5. Kentex Marineman I and II : my pool and beach watches. Great value but different league. SD43 wins. 6. Superocean Heritage 46: gone, too dressy and fake vintage: SD43 wins. Is the SD43 the best diver in my collection from a technical perspective? Probably not. Is it the most valuable? I bet! Which one would I keep as my only diver? You've guessed correctly. |
If you like bigger dive watches then possibly. Otherwise, I suspect not.
These posts are of course subjective. A bit like those who adore the BLNR and say it's the best watch in the Rolex lineup. Others like me don't like it as much as the LN. It's all personal taste. |
I'd be inclined to agree, sd43 may even be #1.
|
SD43, the Chuck Norris of dive watches! :chuckle:
|
Maybe.... My list...
1. Grand Seiko SBGH255 High Beat Auto 2. Grand Seiko SBGA231 Spring Drive 3. Seiko Tuna SBDB013 Spring Drive - the ultimate value diver. 4. Rolex SD43.... Whoops... The SD43 just missed the world's top 3 diver list according to me. So close but I am in a Seiko phase right now... LOL - as they say, personal opinions are like armpits, everyone has them, and most people think they stink. (well except mine that is...) |
fifty fathoms
Rolex sub (any) AP diver That's a sweet three w/o too much thought |
Certainly the best Rolex for causing some owners to want reassurance that they made a great decision. Between this thread and the one on Best Watch at Basel '17 it sure seems to bring out the need.
|
My list (Vintage):
1665 DRSD 16600 Sommozzatori Polipetto 16610LV Anniversary Fat 4 16600 Comex Tornek Rayville tr-900 Current: DSSD Fifty Fathoms Seiko SBDB009 SD43 Panerai PAM87 |
in the prestige/premium group, probably.
but there's better tool divers for under $500 -- maybe even $250 |
Maybe. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and Rolex Submariner are amongst the top three.
|
Lindewerdelin make some pretty amazing modern dive watches.
|
It's definitely the best desk diver, behind my 16600. Though mine gets wet.:chuckle:
 |
