Finally here’s my 5131p review, the reason I haven’t gotten around to it is because I haven’t been wearing it at all, it took six months for Patek to make a 1.5 link and finally it has arrived last week.
Now onto the watch itself, much have been made on the enamel of this watch but the enamel quality of this watch, or for 5131 in general, is average at best. Both VC and Hermes enamel watches are far better in quality. Although to be fair, I have not personally seen Patek’s higher end art craft enamel pieces, those should be better, and are better according forum members from another site. The 240 movement is a typical Patek workhorse, it’s got everything you want in a watch movement, beveling, polished countersinks, Geneva waves, and etc., but is it done to the highest standard? No, under the loupe one can see average beveling (and was done by a machine tool, Patek shows on their website on how they do beveling). It’s more of a polished edge instead of convex curve. But very few brands do (actual) hand beveling anyways, it takes too much time, plus Patek is the largest producer of watches in haute horology, I can understand they don’t have the time nor the manpower. But still, if you buy PP thinking you will get great finishing, think again. Some might question after all these complaint, why bother buying it? Well, I think it was master watch maker George Daniels (and to certain extent Philippe Dufour) who said aesthetics is the most important aspect of a watch, if you get that part right, the watch will sell itself. For me Patek does the best looking PPC and (flat) world time in the market (I also love GF’s 3D globe GMT but that is in another category). |
Awesome watch, major congrats!

What did the link cost

Buy PP for the front. ALS for the back. Love PP WT but skne great looking alternatives like Chopard that recognise DLS

Wow, very nice! I’ve never had a watch with an enamel dial. Can you elaborate on what makes this an average dial? Thanks.

Wow, congratulations!
I love the honest review. I have a close collector friend who always goes on and on about how much better Lange's finishing is, and I agree with him. Maybe it is a little disappointing that a watch in this price bracket isn't finished to the highest standards. But when considered as a package (aesthetics are above movement finishing in the hierarchy for me), Patek wins. |

This is what Patek to me nowadays, looks great from a distance, falls a little short upon close inspection, but when you factor in other criteria such as brand power, second hand value, and etc., it still can’t be beat. |

You’re lucky you got it in 6 months. My 1.5 link for my 5131P took nearly 11 months to receive. |
Congratulations. A grail watch in platinum despite the little picks in your review. Wear it in best of health
