I prefer dress watches, am I the minority?
 

Sport watches are nice but I am more attracted to dress watches. Personally, I feel, it’s how watches should look cos they were originally born in dress style.

I even like to wear them with t-shirts and shorts.

It seems like I am the minority these days.

I like dress watch too i had one 5119 in rosegold. Beautiful indeed. Sadly it does not fit my lifestyle.

You may be in the minority on this site, it is the roleforums after all, the top sports watch brand. But there are many who are fans of dress watches.

I generally wear a dress watch, although shorts and a T-Shirt would warrant a sports model.

I agree. Unfortunately, dress watches can't do everything I want to do. Rolex makes it easy to compromise.

Nice watch but I do prefer sport watches.

I suspect you're not alone in the PP forum. While many own a Nautilus or Aqaunaut, just as many seem to own traditional PP pieces. I'd love to have a 5227 or 5146 as my dress watch. I wore a Reverso for years.

Not at all. If you have to chose only 1, start w dress watch. IMO, a dress watch dresses down easier than a sport watch dresses up...

The only calatrava i own is the pilot. It will likely be the only one i own.

Its not that i dont like dress watches. Its that there are limited models really get me excited especiallly to spend msrp and get hit 30%.

Maybe as I grow up ill apprciate them.

I like dress watches too and I believe there’s a trend towards vintage watches, smaller size, thin and classical look, according taste will keep changing until it touchs the classical watches again.

I do think the majority like their dress watches because patek sells 80% of them annually.

Like both as well - 3998P getting much more wristtime than 5711A in my case despite I am hardly wearing a suit these days.

I like both and which I wear depends on my attire, where I am going and sometimes who I meet. Generally speaking, sports watches got more wrist time as they can be both dressed up and dressed down.

I lean toward dress watches as well. I even bought an OP39 on an impulse.

I’ve heard from plenty of female colleagues that they love it when men wear dress watches.

Wear it however you wish. IMO one can definiately dress down with many complicated watches but I am not sure if I would dress down a traditional calatrava. My only calatrava is the 5524R, which I placed on an alligator strap - effectively making it more dressy. If I had to choose only one PP, it wouldn’t be a Nautilus or Aquanaut.

We would have to define dress watch first. If we’re strictly speaking of ‘dress’ watch then yes - a very small percentage. If we extend the definition to include dressier non-sports watches, e.g. Lange watches, there is quite a few. Most top manufactures and independents primarily make dressier watches on strap.

I do 5396 in shorts, tee, flip flops.

The Calatrava is a Patek classic. The hobnail bezel is quite elegant :thumbsup:

You're not the only one. I have sold all of my sports watches (including the hottest Rolex models) so that I could have a dress-only collection. See no point in having an expensive sports watch.

Most of my daily wear and sport activities will make a new Sub look like crap within weeks. And, frankly, Seiko or Marathon watches would be more appropriate companions given their specs-to-price ratio and performance. Forget about SS offerings from Patek or AP.

In the office, I prefer to wear a watch that slides under the cuff easily, and given my wrist size 37mm is the sweet spot. The ability to wear a watch under the cuff translates into less wear and stealth properties that I value when meeting with clients.

I like a versatile watch and feel that even a classy dress watch can work in some casual settings. I don't sweat the appropriate setting watch any more, other than the most formal of events.

I feel like I have too many sport watches also. So lately been more interested in dressier watches (Patek, Lange, Journe). You're not alone op.

While my sports watches get most wrist time, I do enjoy going casual with my dress watch every now and again.
