Condition

This is a very unusually clean and crisp example of the much-admired King Seiko 44-9990, with sharp lines, broad facets and thick lugs showing on the early Tanaka-style case. The creamy dial and sharp hands & indices are equally impressive, while the caseback – which retains the original gold KS medallion – shows only light wear. The original Seiko-signed, fat-knurled crown is also present.

Winding is slightly stiff, but the movement is bright and clean, gaining just a few seconds a day, and showing strong amplitude, with zero beat error in the dial-up position on my timegrapher (see last photo below).

Requested wrist shot (7.25-inch wrist).

This watch wears quite large for a 36mm case, with long, thick lugs and large dial area.
