Looking for a Weekender

Gents,

I'm looking for a simple no date weekender type watch. I wear a black dial 42mm Explorer II throughout the week and I like the idea of something simple, classic and clean for the weekends. A no date is my preference because I don't need to know the date on the weekend and it makes quick work of setting the time.

I'm thinking between an Explorer and a white dial 39mm Oyster Perpetual. The white OP is obviously a nice contrast to my black Explorer II. My two worries are:

1. No EZ Link extension. I use the EZ Link on my Explorer II every day.
2. I see a million of them for sale. It kind of worries me that so many of these are being flipped in short order.

My only concern with the Explorer is it's somewhat similar to my Explorer II; black dial, Mercedes hour hand, brushed oyster bracelet. Otherwise the Explorer is as clean and classic as it gets.

Cost isn't a consideration since they are pretty close. Any thoughts or insight would be greatly appreciated! Pics if you have them.

Thanks so much!

Mike

OP39 white dial since you already have black. You can source an Easylink if necessary. If your AD has a parts account, see if they can order you a spare.

The Explorer II is already a casual enough watch so you might consider something different. The OP39 in my view would be exactly that.

How much are you willing to spend?

For whatever it’s worth, my Explorer 214270 routinely beats out the BLNR and the LVc for wrist time. It really is that good.

Go OP39 as there is not a lot of clean white dials on bracelet.

I vote Explorer because you said you need the easylink. I sold great watches I had because of adjustment issues and only a glidelock makes me totaly happy nowadays, so I think adjustment plays a very important role in a watch purchase. BTH the Exp and Exp II are not similar watches.

I personally don’t really think the explorer and exp II have much in common looks wise at all! I think they’d actually make a hell of a combo! I had the mk2 and thought it so simple, elegant, and sporty!

Check out the Tudor Ranger - much better size than the Explorer if you are used to the 42mm Exp II

Put it on a an Erika's Original strap - perfect weekend watch.

I think the Explorer and Explorer 2 makes a great combo!

Well that's something I never considered. I'll inquire with my AD. Thanks!

I'm thinking between $5,700 and $6,550. My local AD has no trouble getting either one of them. Although I might go used on here.

I completely believe it! It's taken me awhile to realize that more expensive models don't equate to more enjoyment. I had a mk1 Explorer years ago and loved it. The mk2 corrected all of the minor shortcomings (pun intended) of the mk1.

A man and his watch will soon be united. Such a nice weekend thought. Cheers!

my explorer gets more wrist time than my Pepsi c and Daytona c,
you will not be disappointed!

zjd168 24 March 2019 01:26 PM

EXP easy for me unless you need a white dial

214270 or a Speedy...my go-to weekender...that or a sla017.

pkincy 24 March 2019 01:45 PM

The Explorer has the easy link.

there is a couple of OPs in the FS section at both 39 and 36 sizes with white stick dials.

I have the Explorer and love it but the OP has the same clean simple elegant lines, so either will be great.

White dial would be a good add to your collection.

I have thought long and hard about adding the polar Explorer II to go with my black Explorer II. Although the Explorer II is by far my favorite model, I kind of feel like a little change of pace watch. Although, I'll almost certainly add one down the road.

BradSomrak 25 March 2019 12:23 AM

Explorer gets my vote, FWIW.

mmalek1 25 March 2019 01:05 AM

I often use my easy link as well, so the exp I gets my vote. It is definitely one my most comfortable watches.

Solo118 25 March 2019 01:09 AM

Why either black or white? The OP39 is a fantastic watch, and looks amazing with the blue or grey dial.

Fat_ninja 25 March 2019 01:19 AM

I like the wxplorer 1 so much more than more than most of the current modern rolex... maybe not more than the Dd40. So my vote is explorer

The thing with the OP is the bezel is rounded... it irritates me lol

subprimero 25 March 2019 03:35 AM

Of your choices, the white OP. A polar Explorer II and the Explorer would be the perfect would be a perfect combo.
