Letters to Rolex - So inspiring
Don't know if this has been posted before but here goes:
https://m.rolex.com/about-rolex-watc...-to-rolex.html We're so fixated on the value of our time pieces (me too) that we sometimes forget the real reason why we purchased these amazing timepieces. When I purchased my 116610LV I purchased it because I was advised that the Submariner is built like a tank and will serve you for the remainder of your life... 3 years in and it's been AMAZING. The above link has some amazing stories and indeed very inspiring. Enjoy! Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk |
Thanks for sharing. Some of those letters should be pinned as standard answers to those Is It Sace questions
“I have worn a Rolex Submariner for 17 years now and used it throughout the world on mountain climbing expeditions (including Mount Everest), underwater archaeological research (including the world’s highest dive at 19,300 feet in Northern Chile), desert crossing, sky diving, jungle exploration and during numerous anthropological investigations. I doubt that many people have subjected a Rolex watch to worse punishment over such a period of time. Yet it still functions perfectly.” |

Thanks for sharing the link! The one about getting baked in the oven was both funny and shocking. From getting frozen in ice to cooked in an oven these little time machines can really take a lot. If something does happen to break it can be fixed. There aren’t many personal items you can say that about.

I wish Rolex would make some sort of accommodation to again allow our soldiers to purchase the black submariner or the Explorer 2 at a discount at Military Exchanges. So many of these great stories come from service members that were able to purchase a Rolex during their time in the military.

I have a strong suspicion that they have had the cases polished after such abuse :thumbsdow
Terrible ! |
Now 98% of Rolex owners sit behind a desk and letters would go something along the lines of "Survived another corporate layoff while wearing my Rolex" or "Edge of my desk put a ding in my clasp. Should I send it in for laser-welding?"
|
Nice read, I always wonder why people write such letters

Rolex ran a long series of ads in the 1950s based on letters sent in from all over the world... https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...9&postcount=11

Thanks for this, I really enjoyed th reading. For all those that think these things are simply old relics and not really tools anymore, a brief review of these letters will remind them that nothing holds up like a Rolex. The level of absolute iron toughness is what separates Rolex from the competition. Their competitors are all jewelry manufacturers, nothing wrong with that but the letters remind one of their DNA and that there is no need for th is it safe posts, because th answer is always yes. |

Hope he doesn’t reads this...but I’m almost sure he is busy outside dressing the tyres on his Jeep Wrangler or looking at winch kits so it can cope with next weeks highway commute to work. |
That's very cool. Thanks for sharing. The owner's actually use and unlike the other brand they're not merely looking after it for the next generation.

Interesting letters. I always enjoy reading product testimonials like those.

Now they’re people whose biggest risky adventure is getting the perfect angle to the steering wheel picture so the serial number doesn’t show, and who are scared to get the watch near water, and who fret about scratches on their polished center links. Rolex are still strong, robust and capable. It’s the owners who have sadly softened. |
Nor sure about the genius that decided to bake his GMT ... other than that one, true life exeperiences

Another marketing by Rolex, nailed it..

Last summer I met a great couple during a week's live aboard in the Red Sea.
I noticed that the guy was diving with his 16710 on. I asked if he was not afraid of knocking or otherwise damaging his watch (diving can be very demanding on gear). He said he didn't mind it, because he simply never took it off. Later I noticed that his wife was diving with her lady's DJ on... I guess not everybody is obsessed with which model is the best investment... some people actually just wear their watches. |
Maybe at that time there were no other tool watches available?
I’d say today there are far more brands offering these rough and reliable watches. |
