Accessories for 16710 vs 2nd watch?
 

Hi all,

Recently purchased my first big boy watch, a 16710 Coke (circa 2000). I've wanted a Rolex since I was a kid, so it was a momentous experience being able to slap on a watch that I paid for with my own hard earned.

When I purchased the 16710, I figured the bezel / bracelet configurations would allow me to hold off on a second watch purchase for longer than if I bought the 116710LN (which allows for almost 0 reconfiguration).

However, I recently built a wish list, and the price of these accessories equals the price of another entry level watch! (Super jubilee bracelet, 2x rubber b colors, inserts, etc)

This got me thinking, maybe I should pick up an 5 digit explorer 2 or Tudor GMT instead of decking out my 16710..thoughts?

I don't mess with changing out parts and pieces..... I'm happy with a few dozen different watches. :cheers:

A Black and Pepsi insert= $300-450
Leather bands are $50-200 ea
That gives you many looks for far less than a new watch. Sounds like you looking for permission to buy a second watch. So I grant you that....

My 16710 feels like a different watch for sure with my super jubilee and bezel inserts. The watch and all the accessories probably equates to about 1.5 Rolexes in my opinion, lol, so it's not like having 2.

I'd hold off on getting the accessories and pick up the Explorer II before they appreciate too much. I love my polar and it makes a killer compassion to the 16710.

Came here to post the same thing. Prices of 16570s will rise faster than accessories, which can always be procured later

My 16710 pepsi get way more wrist time than my 126710 BLRO , simply such a beauty and comfortable. In the market for a jubilee :)

The versatility and options with a 16710 (or 16700) are a real attraction, though so too is the option of going with a second watch instead. Am a bit surprised though that the accessories/additions you are considering for your 16710 are mounting up to the same cost as the ExplorerII?

If you're ever in London, you can walk into Rolex UK HQ on St. James's Square, and they'll install a new insert for you (letting you keep the original) for around £60, so you can collect all 3 for £120. These are obviously new service replacement inserts. If you want to go down the route of age correct serif inserts, that's a different sport altogether.

They'll also swap your Oyster bracelet for an age correct reference Jubilee (or vice versa), again letting you keep the original, for around £1000.

All in all, way cheaper than a second watch, if you don't have to factor in the air fare...

I did purchase it all for my 16710 and it is definitely worth it as it gives you 6 different variations !!

How do make that out? A jubilee bracelet is 1000 and the other two inserts are 50 each. So you’d get all combos for 1100. Far cheaper than a second watch.

As others have said, all the options shouldn't set you back more than 1100-1200 bucks. Not sure how this will get you any other luxury watch.

I'd certainly go for the upgrades
