1625 Vintage Turnograph

This is by far the most difficult watch to get a good photo of (for a novice). So many sources for light to bounce off and the dial also picks up the light. Fascinating piece.

Very very nice !!!

Joe_Rolex 30 November 2019 06:01 AM

Exquisite. Can I ask what model “buckle” (or “clasp”) it wears? My 1967 Turn-O-Graph’s Jubilee wears a 62510H-18 and I’m not sure that it’s correct. At any rate, I compliment you on your bespoke piece. Very nice.

BisonHead 30 November 2019 06:03 AM

Does the bezel turn on this model?

It certainly does. Push and turn with a little friction rather like old 1675 and I’m assuming 5513/1680

This is the 62523H 14 from my same year 1601. I actually wear it on a nato.

I got it, didn’t immediately ‘get’ it, listed it for sale and then the more I wore it the better it felt. I’m looking for a SS Oyster as I think the tt jubilee is too much.

Nice , is this a Thunderbird? , I’ve heard the turnograph refered to as a thunderbird , not sure what model though

Awesome watch. If they reissued in 39mm or 40mm the lines would be down the block.

HORNBLOWER 30 November 2019 11:48 PM

Really great undervalued watch, one of my favourites.

Really great undervalued watch, one of my favourites. Great variety of dials etc available on the 1625. The newer variation is also cool.

Here's a bit of a primer on the Thunderbird...

My personal take is that it's the same model as was given to the Thunderbird team but lack the Thunderbird icon. I'd love to see one with the original icon on the dial.

Fellas thank you for all the words. It’s a really super piece. This is how I wear it now. Great hybrid of sports/dress

Looks as though the modern day Yachtmaster bezel pays homage to the Turn-O-Graph

I have had my Thunderbird for over 20 years and I concur that I wish it was 40mm. The fact that it is 36mm is why it rarely gets worn.

I've had a few 1625's (Thunderbird) over the years. I still have the one pictured below. It's the only sporty two tone watch I own.

^^^^^Lovely dial colour. Nice to see it on an Oyster bracelet, gives it very different look. Well done and enjoy.

That ad is cool, showing the F-105B Thunderchief “Thud”. Given that the Air Force Thunderbirds only flew the F-105B for less than a year, six shows only. They had a fatal crash when the aircraft broke apart during aerobatics. They went back to the F-100 for some time.

No posted on here before but did on the TRF site. hope that doesn't 'classify' me.
My first Rolex was a 1625 Ser No 270176x which I think puts it about 1972 with a white gold bezel. I paid £1600 for it in 2012. The bracelet is in really good nick . Are there some identifying numbers that would indicate the bracelet was original? Not ventured to try posting a pic
944SE ( Sadly sold on my 944Turbo SE as the tin worm required some expensive attention. Now running a Cayman S Gen 1... sadly festering unused due to the lockdown)

Great to see a fellow “TOG:er”...I have the SS/WG 1625 version:

first post! been just browsing around, reading up, and trying to figure out what I'd like my first Rolex to be. I think I've landed on a 1625 Thunderbird. so just wanted to show appreciation for all the pics posted!

Those all are quite lovely! Thank you for sharing!

That is one of the top two configurations to me too, just behind the gray dial with white gold bezel. Someday ; )
