This is dedicated for Jeff Hess...Please Advise ASAP..!

Err buddy Jeff Hess...with ALL due consideration n respect to your
renown reputation...
Orchi is seeking your expert advise on a "VINTAGE Rolex GMT Master Mens Wrist Watch Quick set date feature. Swiss made"...
listed by an eBay PowerSeller...that was SOLD recently...to an eBay Buyer with identity that has been kept PRIVATE...

Orchi shall reserve the trust for now...to NOT post the relevant link to the relevant auction as yet...
UNLESS you have advised Orchi subsequently in here or in Private...
with your expert opinions...
to do so based on your personal observation of the following issues...

Did Rolex ever made/produce/distributed Originally...n exclusively...
BOTH the Transitional Models...
Ref 16700 GMT Master...with Sapphire crystal...
n Ref 16760 GMT Master II...with Sapphire crystal...
in Solid GOLD...n 2Tone GOLD/Stainless Steel specification...???

IF So...please provide the relevant provenance relating to the existence of such Models being ROLEX SWISS MADE.

IF NOT...when such a 'Rolex watch' is found in eBay...how would you conclude such watch in the relevant listing to be...

A FAKE...?(product of somebody's figment of wrong/wild imagination)
A Frankenstein...or Frankie...?(mismatched...or garbage)
A Mistake...?(ignorance/stupidity/inexperience - intentional or otherwise)
A deception...?(with clear commercial interest to make more money)
A Scam...?(worst case scenario)

Please offer your expert opinion as soon as possible...TQ!

tudorman8276 22 February 2009 02:50 PM

...I know...I know...

...I am NOT Jeff...BUT...

...according to my R20 Cat, the CORRECT crystal for BOTH watches is the 29-295-2 (sapphire).

...hope this helps good buddy.

Now, Stan...

you know this Forum is not suppose to have this type of knowledge :chuckle:

Gosh Orchi,

I would like to see the watch and the auction. Unlke others I would never make a determination of authenticty without seeing the item.

Most appraisal entities (including ASA and ISA i believe) teach to never do appraisals without seeing the piece. It is then just hypothetical.

If I a reading your question correctly, someone sold a watch that you think is not correct.

If this is the case, I would contact the seller and ask him to contact the buyer and make it right.

And if someone has altered a watch to purposely cheat a consumer this is wrong and he should be chastised.

If someone sold it out of pure ignorance, he should be given a pass but educated quickly and should STILL be asked to contact the seller and make it right.

Buddy Orchi, I find your question a bit confusing and long. Can you synopsize it for me?

Also, as to what I call "modern" Rolex, I bow to your expertise. My expertise is more in vintage.

Please send me via pm the auction is question so I can view it and I will take a stab at it.

Jeff

This thread is too cryptic for my liking.

If there's something to be said let it be stated clearly.

springer 23 February 2009 04:33 AM

I think Orchi's message is quite clear. If anyone knows of such watches, please bring 'em out and show us.

I'm sure somebody has been scammed somewhere to buy one of these rare, jackalope GMT's.

tudorman8276 23 February 2009 07:27 AM

...I like that...

Err...buddy Parachrom...welcome to this TRF's WatchOut forum.

The little knowledge that Orchi gathered from TRF n VRF has so far prevented
Orchi from buying ANY Franken or FAKE watch...also problematic parts...
fortunately.

n many thanks to the contributions by ALL the TRF buddies in the WatchOut forum also...
many unsuspecting eBay Buyers have benefited immensely from this WatchOut forum...also.

Special thanks should go to the Admin/Moderators of TRF as well...

Err buddy Paul...albeit being contacted by Buddy Jeff Hess on the related matters in PM...
Orchi has NOT received the appropriate response or action which would
otherwise expected to be necessary from Buddy Jeff Hess...

Since he is a respected member in here...
Orchi is reluctant to post the relevant link here...
as it would likely be reported to eBay with the relevant discrepancies
found on the related listings...for watches that were SOLD
by relevant Seller...closely related to Buddy Jeff Hess.

This WatchOut forum...for all its intent n purpose...
is to watch out for fakes...scams...dubious n questionable listings...
that exist in the internet online markets...such as in the eBay auctions.

That has been done without prejudice...
without fear or favour...
without any biased opinions to any party...
n without bad intention meant personally to any party...either.

But...Orchi's further action in here may possibly be misconstrued...
as a personal attack to him...or his reputation...

Orchi,
I have seen more than 1 GMT 2 tone with those reference. I believe those are what are called conversion watches. In plain english I think it never left Rolex like this but can be made with all Rolex parts.Back in the late 80's I had seen this alot going back to stainless and visa versa.I had a friend that wanted a 2 tone sub and had his SS converted by a local unauthorised Rolex repair buyer and seller. He used all Genuine Rolex parts and my friend was happy with it. Now some call it a frankenwatch. If I am wrong I dont claim to be an expert or a know it all so please correct me.

Err buddy Nikos...welcome to this TRF's WatchOut forum...!

On the note with Rolex Ref 16760 n 16700...GMTs...

Not withstanding what buddy Jeff Hess or others may have the rights to own opinion...
by stating the following in the relevant listing...
it can lead the listing to be construed as...
misinterpretation or misrepresentation...

"VINTAGE ROLEX GMT Master Mens Wrist Watch Quick set date feature. Swiss made"...

The watch is messed up...mixed up...mismatched...a Frankie...or Franken...
BUT the watches are indeed INCORRECT to be in Gold/SS configuration...
n they were NOT Trademarked ROLEX GMT Master Swiss Made...
to be precise.

Orchi 24 February 2009 01:00 PM

Err buddies...this is the latest update...

Buddy Jeff Hess has re-assured Orchi by the latest PM that he would look into
the relevant issues...to take further appropriate n necessary actions to contact
n rectify the discrepancies with the relevant Buyers...

As it was a WeekEnd...it may NOT have been possible for him to do so as
quickly as possible...

Orchi hopes the affected Buyers would be pleased with the relevant initiatives
to be undertaken by Buddy Jeff Hess...

Orchi also trusts n hopes that Buddy Jeff Hess would initiate the same...
with another additional listing of Transitional Rolex Ref 16753 GMT Master...
in 2 Tone Gold/SS that was SOLD recently...
But later found to be fitted in Orchi's own opinion...
with a REDONE/RE-Finished Dial...which had arisen out of an unintentional mistake...
to begin with.

The BEST Sellers in Orchi's book...is also the one who would make up for
any mistakes made...which would otherwise bound to happen considering
the fact that the Sellers may have HIGH volume with dozens of listings
up for eBay auctions on daily basis.

They might have overlooked the certain watches or items that passed
through their stores even under the tight scrutiny of their technical support
staffs...

One more Hess auction in the watchout section.
