Thoughts on Patek 5064A Quartz

Hi,
Having had my interest peaked by this forum in regards PP.

I have been doing some general browsing on the net, looking at the Aquanaut and have seen a couple of quartz models.

I see that they are well less than half the price of a Mechanical Aquanaut.

Whats the thinking on these? Good watches or steer well clear.

Was this PP's shot at Quartz similar to Rolex. I had always presumed PP was a mechanical watch company. Learn something new everyday.

Thanks in advance
BH

Thanks for the reply. So are they decent watches or worth avoiding?

Suppose it comes down to being in the mechanical or quartz camp

They are decent watch......

If you don't mind change battery every 3 years or so....

And

If you ever want to sell it, it going to be hard time.....

If you like it and will keep it for the rest of your life, then go for it.......

Don't go for it just because it cheap in price.....

What’s the size? It definitely appears on the smaller side.

Thanks for the replies.

I have seen it described as a 35 and 36mm watch.

Just came across them in my browsing. Noted they were substantially cheaper and wondered if there was a reason for this. So thought i know, will ask the folks on here.

For some reason the Aquanaut has really caught my attention this past month or so. Think it would be a good everyday watch. Has a bit of stealth about it.

I’ve been wanting a 5164a, but still too much of a premium in secondary market. Prices have been trending down of late, so I’m being patient. Also considering other options like the new “ladies” pilot.

Yep they certainly are pricey from the browsing i have done on the net. Probably why the quartz one caught my eye.

Plus i am not into overly large watches that seem to be the fashion currently.

+1

I can’t think “quartz Watch” without thinking about the Casio I got for a 13th birthday present from my uncle.

Patek produced some quartz men's watches during the "quartz crisis", including some Aquanauts and Golden Ellipse. The only Patek men's quartz watch I would consider purchasing is the Beta 21.

I think Patek ladies' quartz watches are fine to purchase if your lady likes them.

the 36mm is great on the right wrist and packs a lot of punch. Wears very similar to 4- and 5- digit nonSEL Rolex Explorer I's. I have a 5060a and last week got to try on a 5065 and 5167. I like all three for different reasons and they each have their own unique vibe, but I'd say the two on the opposite ends of the spectrum do occupy more vintage vs more modern aesthetic and feeling respectively. I'd agree w everyone else and say hold out for an automatic for sure.

I have a 5066a. Superficially very similar to the 5064, just with an applied 3 and of course a beautiful automatic movement that fully fills the case, visible through the sapphire caseback. I adore my 5066 but wouldn’t touch a 5064 with a bargepole.
