Wait times for Explorer I

What are people hearing for wait times for the Rolex Explorer I? I heard 2 months from a SF Bay Area dealer while I was visiting the area last June/July as I struck up a great conversation with the salesman. He knew I wasn't looking to flip

i saw one a couple of days ago. a gentleman tried it on after they pulled it out of the safe for him, but ended up passing on it. all about timing!

My wait time was one day. They had one in at my AD when I went in to have my SD43 sent off for regulation. The manager mistook me for someone else and brought it out as soon as I walked in the door. I expressed it wasnt mine, but that I was coincidentally going to ask to be put on notice for one. Was told that if the interested party didn't show, it would be mine. I picked it up the following afternoon. Such a great watch!

within a couple weeks

I got mine the day after calling my AD looking for one.

I waited one day as well. I went instore, had a half-hour chat with the sales manager, who rang me next day as they had "received a delivery" that morning. I had previously purchased 2 Omega's from the store, over an 8 year period, which may have helped.

Do we read into this that the apparent lack of wait time translate into a less desirable timepiece?

I walked in to my local AD and bought one of these less desirable Exporer 1s that have just been delivered.

But then again I have totally no desire to own a Batman Batgirl kermit Hulk ceramic Daytona or any other watch named after a comic book character so I was happy with my less desirable timepiece.

I'm pretty sure if John Mayer were to extol the virtues of the Explorer in an interview, there would be a 18 month backlog to get one.

I do think it's less desirable though in the sense that it's slightly smaller than current trends. Its clean, simple and understated while most people seem to gravitate toward watches with more going on. Definitely not recognizable as a Rolex to the layman and has little to no flash. It's a quiet, tasteful and functional piece that seems to be a more mature purchase for many. Less is more with this watch. Damn good thing it's "undesirable", was nice to pick up a Rolex I wanted without having to wait!

Wait times must be coming down - I was quoted 2 years last September, I think it is a lovely timeless classic where it is less desirable as the latest thing so it less prone to being flipped and having greys take advantage with it now.

No real wait. I was told 1-2 months. Got call few days later. See them in cases every now and then.

I’ve been trying to purchase one as my first Rolex since July so far with no luck. Instead of being told an approximate wait time all i’ve heard from ADs is that they “haven’t seen one in a while”.

it's sad when some can walk in and pick one up same day or miraculously discover one from the back and others get told years.
