Aquanaut 5167a
Hi all,
I'm really keen to get an Aquanaut 5167a, I love the slim profile and just the less is more look of the watch on the rubber strap. I currently have 3 Rolex models in my collection (Sky-Dweller 326135 choco dial, black sub and a 116500LN white dial) but really want a 5167a. Is there anyone here who has or/had both the 116500LN and the 5167a as I was thinking of potentially going to the grey market to maybe p/x the 116500LN and money for 5167a. I would love peoples thoughts on both the 5167a and the potential p/x... |
In short, keep the Daytona and your other Rolexes and be content. The watch market is so over inflated that to trade up from 116500LN to the 5167A would be a bad financial undertaking.
I’ve owned both these watches from new, bought from ADs. They are both versatile, good looking watches but there’s no way I’d be paying £32000 for a 5167A today or £21000 for the 116500LN. |

I have both, and you are right in that the 5167 is very slim and classy. It is a great daily wear.
Attachment 1107811 I have no idea what is a px though. Sorry. |
The red 5167 is so nice. :drul:

I would do it aqu:thumbsup:

I have a 116500LN borrowed at the moment and my 5167a and they are both great and versatile, but I would not trade one for the other in either direction :D
|
Trade the sub for the Aqua if you must trade one, going grey in the UK is horrible but if you have no chance of an AD sale then get the watch you truly want. Get a few quotes from the big greys here, Watchfinder and the Bond St guys etc.

I would personally keep the daytona. And sell the other ones.
|
I didn't love my 116500LN and do love my 5167a, but it's 100% personal preference. The 67 is thinner and lighter and I like the rubber strap.
|
I traded my Daytona for a 5167 (at retail). Now I'm totally out of Rolex and only into PPs and APs. No looking back, thought I might still pick up a Rolex one day. Different leagues for sure.

I’ve had all those. I would not pick the aqua over the ceramic Daytona. But I’d def angle for both.

As others have said the 5167A is fine at retail. It is hard to justify paying the aftermarket premium for it. I would also keep the Daytona.

I agree with you.. for a “hot” model that I would have to wait years for, psychologically a ceiling of 25% over retail works for me. Almost two years ago I paid $27k for a preowned CB, retail at the time was 23-24, and I was very comfortable w that and don’t regret it for a moment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I can't find 30K of value in a 5167, let alone mid to high 30s. There are many better watches out there for that money. Between the 116500LN and 5167 I'd pick the Daytona hands down. |

A blue dial Skydweller is a good example of a watch that can currently be had for around 25% MSRP, and could be worth getting as they are still very difficult to get at an AD. |
I ordered my 5167a without seeing it. When it came in 2 years later I didn't know what to expect . This watch is absolutely stunning! Its worth every penny. Good luck and hope the best https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a099fab4a5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c3338e9feb.jpg

The 5167a can be one watch for every occasion. One of the most versatile and comfortable watch to wear.

In that case I think it is a personal decision. For me, I prefer the 67 because I like its simplicity and elegance. |
I have both the 116500 and the 5167/1a and I vastly prefer the Aquanaut. Insane legibility and low profile wearability make it the perfect go anywhere, do (almost) anything watch. I prefer it on the bracelet, which gets an undeserved bad rap.
|
I have both as well and prefer the aquanaut as well. Legibility with the Dayton is tough as mentioned. I wouldn’t sell either watch but if I was forced to pick one it would be the Patek. I’m not either is worth the gray prices they are commanding these days so my 2 cents would be hold until the madness subsides.
My aquanaut is on a bracelet and I love it. The only complaint is that the watch should come with the 1.5 link for immediate sizing. My AD gave it to me but it took some time to get the sizing correct. |
Add the Aqua when ready.

Patek Aquanaut 5167 = US$30,000 do you think a fair price?
|
If you like it and need it; and you have the money - just pay dealers according to the market price as in Chrono 24 - which is about US$40,000 - US$45,000
If you are a dealer and want to trade and profit from it; you need to bargain. Perhaps for 5167/1A you may be able to buy if you pay cash slightly above US$35,000 which I think is fair; considering you need to add on GST or VAT and also make 15% profit when you sell. It may be difficult to bargain as stock is limited. The best is do it on consignment and you sell at the price in Chrono 24 which is about US$43,000 plus GST or VAT and charge 10% commission. |

C24 inflates prices so it can obtain a bigger 6% commission. The higher the selling price, the bigger the commission. It has a vested interest in driving up prices. I just sold a watch on C24 and was advised that the market price was well above what I thought it was worth. I’d been watching the same watch from other sellers on other fora including C24 for around two months, and none seem to be moving for the so-called “market price.” I ended up selling it for below market, which was as expected. Also, where did you get the figure of $40-45K market price for a 5167? They’re all at $31-39k, and I seriously doubt they’re selling for those prices. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
