Sidney Thomas in Boston Prudential has closed for good

I walking through the Pru to get some groceries from Eataly and noticed that the Rolex sign outside of Sidney Thomas had been taken down. Further sleuthing suggests that the Prudential center location has been closed for good. It's no longer listed on the Sidney Thomas website, or Rolex's list of official ADs. I was never a big fan of the sales people there as they reminded me of used car salesmen, but I hope they land on their feet. I would not want to be in the luxury retail business while the Plague rages on.

Hope everyone is safe and well!

I agree, the sales people weren’t the best. Not surprised they closed, even before covid the Rolex displays were empty ( likes every other AD)

Good riddance. Never a fan of the staff there

It's not surprising.

My wife got a OP34 there, but just because they were the only ones in town at the moment (1-2yr ago) that had.

Never was a fan of the staff.

Will be interesting to see how the new Longs will be on Newbury. Check out Richard Mille and Longs all within a few stores [emoji2962]

I think there maybe a few more closures over the world.

Not a surprise, I visited them a year and half ago and while I was checking the displays all the Sales reps were on their cells chatting and no one even said hi, worst AD I've visited, I just turned around and left the store.

Agreed. I have high expectations for the Long's Rolex boutique (I've had nothing but positive experiences with Long's so far) and hope their opening inspires everyone to up their game. Boston has long been over-saturated with Rolex ADs that are happy to sell you a datejust, but unwilling (or unable) to sell stainless steel professional models.

Also, here's to hoping that AP reenters the Boston market in the near future. Now that Shreve is not an AP dealer, have to travel all the way to NYC to get my AP fix.

Agreed. The RM staff is very nice as well. They loved my AP 15202ST I had at the time.

I've actually had my best luck with Lux Bond and Green. TT SD43, Rootbear, and this week a SubC ND.

Nice! Did you have to travel all the way to NYC to pick up your AP?

I like LBG as well, bought a Sub C with Date from them a while back, but haven't had as much success with the GMTs. All would be forgotten if they could produce an Aquanaut!

AD closings is never a good sign in my mind; less competition for other AD’s in the area won’t help!

Thoughts: Covid related or just culling the herd?

I feel bad for the very nice guy who worked security there.

The rest of the employees got what they deserved.

Hopefully this will help LBG business in the short term, as I think their Boyleston location needs it. I like the people there but their product is stale. The Long’s owned Rolex boutique will likely put even more strain on their business being just a block away.

AP was a hidden gem find from European Watch Co. I was there when someone was trading it in an immediately took it (since sold).

I believe the RM boutique is a collab with Material Good. Material Good is an AP AD, so I think it’s possible they could bring the brand to Boston too.

LBG niche is having their multiple stores and once you get in with a SA they not only check their store but try to work with corporate on getting an allocation.

It will be tough for their shop by Newbury when Longs opens but I assume it'll be a short time where they both just carry the same skeleton of a collection of Rolex on display.

Does anyone know when the new Longs Rolex boutique will open? The manager at the summer st location told me about it awhile ago but I havent heard any details really.

I like the people at Longs but if you actually want to see Rolex watches I think you have to go to European Watch co. Those guys are cool too but prices seem abit high I think they expect you to negotiate.

The difference between a recession and a depression:

A recession is when your neighbor loses his job. A depression is when you lose your job.

I've been told that the opening has been pushed back to sometime in the fall.

EWC is a fun place to window shop, but their high prices are bit off putting. Now that I've spent more time developing relationships with SAs at various shops, I've found they're generally willing to pull things out of the back and show me some of the rarer pieces, even if they're already spoken for. It can make for a rather awkward scene when random passersby see this happen, and try to make a move.

If anyone visited before, how’s your experience of Sidney Thomas in New Jersey?
