Received my first Patek today but...

I took the plunge on a new 5170R (from AD) but the finishing on the hands can’t be right. The hands look smudged as if wiped with a dirty cloth.

Congratz !!

Put a loupe on it and go back to the seller if needed

Bearxj86 4 July 2020 04:41 AM

Wtf

btinl 4 July 2020 05:07 AM

The numerals also all have micro scratches under the loupe. I have contacted the AD already and have an appt Tuesday when they re-open.

What smudges are you referring to? Can you point them out?

The hour and minute hands do not have a perfectly mirror finish. They look dirty or scratched.

martinr 4 July 2020 05:53 AM

Was this the one Hesselbein had for sale?

No. Not from them.

CamSLC 4 July 2020 05:55 AM

That is frustrating. Hope the AD can make it right for you.

Platypus 4 July 2020 06:00 AM

Is that dust under the crystal I see?

Bearxj86 4 July 2020 06:06 AM

As a FYI, the case looks like there are micro scratches. To me it is not a mint watch but one that was shown alot or worst case it is preowned.

You might want to ask them for the story on this one...

Those hands almost look tarnished. Maybe this was a piece that was returned because of a flaw and then it was resold as new but had been opened up and exposed to air for too long maybe?

gsg 4 July 2020 07:06 AM

Where you present when this watch was first unsealed? As mentioned, the micro scratches in the case and bezel make it look like a preowned watch.

No, I wasn't there when it was unsealed. The micro scratches on the case don't bother me so much because they are inevitable. The hands and dial though should be pristine.

Agreed, watch should never have left the factory and this looks bad for the PP quality control dept.

dauster 4 July 2020 12:16 PM

And this after reading the macro shots thread oh boy frustrating

Yep I am with Jin , sorry this happened op.

Soondooboo 4 July 2020 12:35 PM

What happened to PP seal being higher quality than Geneva seal?

It may just be marketing hype:dummy:

sgwatchguy 4 July 2020 01:02 PM

You should ask for a replacement.

He DID point them out. Look at the hands of the first picture.

myporsche 4 July 2020 06:38 PM

So frustrating to see posts like this. Even though I don't agree with it all, PP watches are supposed to have higher levels of finishing and detail on their higher end pieces which this one I would consider. It's disappointing, PP really needs to step it up and stop just relying on their history and prestige (also hype). Hope its resolved to your liking OP.

RussW 4 July 2020 07:53 PM

The chrono hands look an odd colour. Have they caught the sunlight or are they always that colour?

Humble michael 4 July 2020 09:16 PM

Wow! Op , I sure hope you didn’t pay 80 grand for that piece- if you did I would demand a refund , just MO . :-(

GoingPlaces 4 July 2020 09:25 PM

I would ask for a replacement watch. Period.

1William 4 July 2020 10:14 PM

Very disappointing but let's see what the AD says and offers. I would not be inclined to accept a service or a send back to PP if I was still the owner. With the current situation who knows when it would be back. I would want a refund or a new watch/differentwatch. Keep us posted.

ap1 4 July 2020 10:14 PM

Return to sender

Chiboy 4 July 2020 10:55 PM

The watch is discontinued, no? So a replacement might be problematic. That sucks.

I don't own a loupe, or a PP for that matter, but if buyers are going to put a new watch under a loupe, doesn't it make sense to do it in the store before one buys it?

Good luck getting resolved. Pretty watch!
