190 or 233?

Which one would you choose if you could have just one of them? Keep in mind that the 190 is discontinued and has a total production run of 2,050.

B. Doggy 13 June 2009 03:11 AM

Oh, and it would be the 233 with the "Dot."

Launch Mini 13 June 2009 03:14 AM

I have both & I prefer the 190.
Nice & clean, THere is actually something to see in the back ( vs the 233).
Can be dressy or casual.
Fits under most of my long sleeve shirts.
I prefer rads.
Do like the 233, but have NEVER used the GMT function. Quick change strap is nice.

I have been thinking of selling some of my collection. SO I have pondered this too.
I think I would keep my 190.
I prefer this over my 232 also.

I love both watches. 190 for its limited production and gold hands, 233 for just about everything! Given a choice again I will still go for the 233. Having said that, 190 is not far from my radar scope too...

So many nice watches, so little money...

morgman 13 June 2009 04:41 AM

I prefer the 233 with the older "dot" too.
The dial is very interesting, as are the domed crystal & 1950's case.
(I'm not a radiomir guy yet though)

argee1977 13 June 2009 04:43 AM

233, next question

chu88y 13 June 2009 04:52 AM

luminor for me too

JF23 13 June 2009 05:14 AM

Another Luminor fan here. 233 is the cat's meow...

Nica64 13 June 2009 08:38 AM

X3 another Luminor fan here  233 for me!!

Trurolexer 13 June 2009 11:30 AM

Hard to say...But I choose for 233 with dot too. Good luck whatever you choose in the end, Bro...

Randy 13 June 2009 12:24 PM

233 all the way! More versatlity IMO. Good luck with your decision.

B. Doggy 13 June 2009 12:32 PM

Maybe I'll just get both and call it good with Panerai. There are other Rolex I lust for as well....

hflee55 13 June 2009 01:32 PM

233 all the way!

TswaneNguni 13 June 2009 02:42 PM

Hmmmmm ....

190 : Limited, through being discontinued and highly collectible.Comes from an era where few models were manufactured with the JLC movements. The 242 also an example. The 190 has the JLC 8 day manual wind movement.Heavy and thickish cased 45mm Radiomir.

233 : Popular watch, nicely cased 1950s Luminor, although I still prefer the "normal" Luminor case,in 44mm."In-house movement" and if the dotted version can be found, thats the one I would go for.

Great choices, but I would give the edge to the 190.

The alternatives >>>> Have to consider the following IMO :

232 and 249
127 ( Nothing beats the 47mm 1950s cased Luminors !!,I wish I had one.... and if I can find one locally,I would give it VERY serious consideration :thumbsup:)

Good luck, cant go wrong with either the 190 or 233.

190 screams heritage.

233 new and cool.

190 for me. Rolex has Panerai beat in the GMT dept (for me guys, not you!)

B. Doggy 14 June 2009 02:03 AM

Thanks for all the thoughts guys. I do think I'll keep the 190, but I wanted to know everyones thoughts here. I plan on having both, but it's tough holding out when I can go pick up a 112 anytime. I just want the 233 to me my Luminor!

tech_controller 14 June 2009 08:33 AM

233 preferred here...but the 190 isn't too far behind. I'd love to add the 190 since I already have a 233.

brainbizz 14 June 2009 08:54 AM

The 190 just does not do it for me. I purchased the 268 instead. IMHO the 233 dot is the perfect luminor. I actually typically prefer rads but the nod goes to 233.

GBJIV 14 June 2009 11:05 AM

233 for me...

Trurolexer 14 June 2009 04:03 PM

If you can buy 233 without flip your 190, that's good for you.

louie 14 June 2009 04:22 PM

190 than the 233

remember the 233 is still on going production. For collectivity and investment,i say 190.

Zed 14 June 2009 05:41 PM

i would keep the 190 since it is so collectable.. it is also cool, 8 days with the indication at the back... i think it is (for me) the most desirable Radiomir,,,
you can always satisfy your hunger with a 233 (am/pm) in years to come.. but once you let go of the 190.. its gone..

argee1977 14 June 2009 05:46 PM

I'm not too sure the 190 is collectable, that's the problem with Panerai just now, every year another couple of 'collectable' models come out and dilute the whole range.

127/217/232/249/203/21 et al. dont seem diluted to me.

You're forgetting about the models with less than 2000 units over the last 10 years, you've mentioned a few, but there reaches a point where there are just too many 'limited' number models, look at Audemars Piguet with the Offshore, every month they seem to come up with a new model and it's diluted the appeal.

Try finding a limited edition from the AD !! :chuckle: Its not like they are sitting on the shelves collecting dust !!

If I could find a 127 from the AD,I would be EXTREMELY happy !!:chuckle::thumbsup:

rotan 15 June 2009 12:41 AM

I would say 233 might just maintain its value or even be pricier in the future cos Panerai is phasing out the "dot" for 233. So I say grab the "dot" 233 now!

Trurolexer 15 June 2009 12:54 AM

190 is very stable in value. Around 9k-10k.

They've dipped a little below that for sale prices on paneristi and other places, but so has nearly every other watch recently. I think they'll hold their value well, but they won't be the next collectable, there are just too many of those and as i said earlier, Panerai seem to release 2 or 3 'collectables' every year, this year we've got the 28, then there's the 341, and some of the others might do the same like the PVD'd 212.
