233---- Collectable
Do you think the 233 with Dot will become one of the big collactables out there like the blackseal with the pig?????
Blackseal with pig released at around 4000usd... now around 20000usd 233 with Dot released around 14000usd.... where is oit going to end up???? |
I voted for #3.
|
Seriously, nobody will know whats going to happen to the price of dot 233. True the dot might be popular with the guys in the forum here but once the am/pm 233 comes out, the reception might be good or bad.... Of course I wish for the price of dot 233 to go up as I have one.
One more news from Singapore is one of the guys send in his 233 for servicing and the staff told they would change his dial FOC, something like a upgrade. So I wonder whether they are changing his dial to the am/pm dial.... |
As much as I would like it to, I just don't think it will. It seems like the 233 is hot sometimes and not so much other times. I've heard AD's often have a hard time selling them. Just what I heard though and I certainly could be wrong.
|
I don’t think they are that 'hot' at the moment as I have been offered 5 in the space of 2 months ranging from GBP £5350 (for a secondhand near mint one) to £6600.00 for BNIB.
Which is very good for me as Im a buyer - unfortunately all of the above have been located overseas and I want to do a face to face transaction here in the UK. I believe another one has just been offered on the other forum for EUR6600 (near mint) based in Italy. Overtime I think this watch will hold its own and be somewhere in the 10k -20k bracket. IMHO |
collectible or not...too early to tell now. No one knows if it will stop after the L serial...if it does, than it will be the new 233 more desirable.
Production 2006/2007/2008 I/J/K4500 VS 2009 L2000 units. IF the 233 production is ongoing for the next 5-6 yrs,i will vote the I serial 233 will be the most collectible. Been the first series housing the first inhse movt, and the almighty uniquely designed "dotted" am/pm indicator! |
Dotties 233 and 289 >
ANY PAM goes up in value .....its just a question of how long to keep and by how much it will gow up.Some are fast and high valuers eg 292 maiale,127 etc....and even the run of the mill ol' base Luminors will get you your money back,if you keep it long enough !!:cheers: Some are real investments, some are just value retainers and all are priceless in the joy of wearing and ownership department !!:thumbsup::cheers: |

I would have grabbed the £5350 one, you'll not find another cheaper now, the problem is that due to the market most prices have dropped, but with the dot going out of production it may well put the prices back up a little or stop it dropping, add price rises onto it and that £5350 was a bargain price (i would add that i think i know the 233 you were offered, and it wasn't mint, infact it could have done with a service which pushes the price up by £300-400 and six weeks away!) I think that in 5-10 years time, and a few more 233 series the dot will start to go up a little, it might become one of those chased after, but it's a long way off, i think in the next 2-3 years the dot will start to go up with the price rises and maybe a little extra, depending on what Panerai release. |
One thing i forgot, the reason panerai's went up so rapidly in the last 3 years is that the market is growing for them, there are more people buying and wanting Panerai's, with the same production numbers coming out. So the watches that are deemed to be special will go up again if the market continues to grow for Panerai.
There is also the credit market coming back, pretty much all luxury watches went up by huge amounts when credit was easy to get, second mortgages gave you easy money and pay was going up steadily, in the last 12 months or so we've seen most of that come right down, and that's brought the models that were hard to get become easier, including the 233, so if you want to buy one i'd get in there now, because if we get back to some type of stable financial market i dare say the prices will go up again. Personally i'm hoping they come down, i want another couple of panerai's and don't want to pay silly money for them  |
Totally agree :-) (I should I say Totally 'argree' LOL)
I paid a visit to Watches Of Swizerland (the one near Green Park, London) - They had 12 PAMs for sale on he Thursday, by Monday they only had one left! - Money is starting to flow again and Panerai is starting to become a brand people are becoming more aware of. Im still trying to hunt down a 'mint' 233 K in the UK - budget 6k - anyone ? |

do I sense you are going to buy another PAM ?
If I could get an AD down a bit, I would go for it, just dont like paying full retail even with at 0% - Do you think your Bath AD will shift on RRP for 0% ? |
I don't think my AD offers 0% to start with
They might shift on RRP, but i doubt that as well, it's the weird situation that i've never really understood so well, you have a certain watch, say a 233, Daytona, etc. You look on forums like this, tz-uk, paneristi.com and you see the 233s selling for £6000, yet some don't seem to sell so you wonder about the price. You then see a 233 in your AD, it's £7900/8400, you go back a fortnight later and it's gone, someone has bought it for MRSP or close to it, you then check out blowers/watches.co.uk and they have one for £7400, you then check back a week later and it's sold. The reason i say this is because bricks and mortar shops seem to sell their watches for the price they want, whereas the secondhand market has so many things, i listed my 233, but withdrew it because i just didn't want to part with it in the end, i know two other guys have done the same and one did sell his, but got £6600 for it (I Series, mint condition). So in short, it's a weird world when it comes to the watch market, what we feel is prices the AD can't get is infact wrong in most cases, with the internet and forums people forget there are guys out there with money who just want to have a no hassle deal, walk in, get treated well and walk out with a new watch, and even if it depreciates by 20% they're not too bothered, most don't really know what a Panerai really is like the guys on here and paneristi and that's the reason why ADs seem to get the prices they want, and why they rarely offer good deals for brands like Panerai and Rolex. |
Oh yeah, and you are right, another PAM looks favourite for me just now, come November i get a little bonus that can either get me a nice 111/177, or i can use it with 0% to get something a little higher up like a 305
Then again, JLC are also on the short list  |
Hope I can get my Big Pilot soon too....

233 will go on for few more years(maybe 10 more years ???), it could be another 111. why would they design a in-house movement and stop it after only a few year. |

1- the 233 is becoming a very popular watch regardless of the high price, unlike previous popular launches.. that tells you something 2- the 233 combines the simple essence of the Panerai with a very balanced face in the historic 1950 casing and so many functions that are usefull (8days indicater., long power reserve, 12hr GMT with GMT indication) 3- if correct, the L models onward will have the am/pm indicator instead of the dot. while existing I/J/K = 4500 are with "Dot" will be more desirable than the new ones because they are no longer in production and because they look simpler and nicer. it is the only Panerai watch with the dot.. (i think, with the exception of its radiomir sister and pink gold LTD) The fact that they will continue to make the 233 with am/pm.. it will make this model vrey desirable because it will keep the intrest in the 233 going. |
Sounds like a plan Zed... I will keep my 233 and see the price going up...
