When I read ‘polished bewels’ I question the intelligence of the source and the poster?:lol:
My 231 has a base ETA Unitas 6497-1 movement but to me is one of the nicest watches I own. You sent a Panerai in for a service last year and it came back with a scratch on it. Is this your problem? |
There’s 2 sides here, but Jose investigates fully all the references he discusses. His take on what he investigates is that amongst other issues, history & some of their offerings aren’t quite as they seem. Unfortunately this does appear to be the case regardless of others opinions. Do other brands create or embellish history? Absolutely they do, but others aren’t quite as high profile. I enjoy reading his findings and discussing them with him.
And by the way, I’ve had 3 Panerai and currently own an early 112; a no nonsense eta movement based Base model. Would I buy a new model? Probably not. |
The guy knows Panerai better than most. I found this interesting: https://perezcope.com/2022/04/28/rol...-side-by-side/

Omega, rolex, jlc, zenith all have maintained their quality, development and their history and prestige remains.
Panerai seems to be losing all of it in current day. It can be seen when i go to their stores and see their watches. Nothing in their current line up generates interest and value. Sent from my SM-A920F using Tapatalk |

Not sure why you think that, Adam. 90% of his content is conjecture based on “according to expert collectors” and “industry sources” and “former employees” and “my brother’s hairdresser’s cousin”. |

Interesting that they used the Rolex 3235 in the article where 25% on the TRF poll have issues with the movement ... :chuckle:
Just checked ,I have the following movements in my collection : P2002/1 in 289 OP XI in 292J P9010 in 671 ,beautifully finished still and seconds hand hacking. OP X in the 249 P3000 in the 425 and 932 P3001 in the 422 P2002/7 in the 341 All from a great era . Wonder how the P 9010 looks in the 44mm Gold-Tech Submersible ? Gorgeous watch, would be a pity if the movement was plane jane . |
PAM fan here to be clear.
Have had an 88, 422 (boy, do I miss that one) and 1313. Can't really say I approve of some of the corporate decision making or other nonsense in recent years. Still, a unique and very cool brand. Should have one in my collection, just not drinking the Kool-Aid. |

The Rolex 3235 movement issue is real, however Rolex stands by their warranty and will fix it when sent in. I’ve had a panerai where I’ve sent it in twice and was returned to me with the same issue plus extra scratches |

The only positive is that P have not increased prices in over 2 years as of now.

I have owned and still own Panerai, looking for something new as we speak. |
Foxiness, not sure what you mean. My 1661 is for sale at the same price today as when I purchased in 2019.
|
Interesting that no-one seems to be refuting any of claimed facts in the article, but just resorts to personal attacks on messenger or source. Is anyone arguing that the sad looking pictures on the website are not of a P.9010 Evolution, OP XiXX and P.900e?
I have one Panerai (721), and at one time was planning to buy a few more, but can only see Panerai's actions as "complete and utter disrespect for the very people who spend their hard-earned money", as the article says. |

I have to agree with you.. Currently own 3 , was planning on adding a 44 mm submersible. I am truly disappointed.. I could live with the p900 but at least decorate it and explain why they decided to go with this movement instead of the 9010. |

Just saw a PAM 29 tuxedo tritium dial for sale ,1999,very little money ...thats what you buy :read::thumbsup:

You wear it if you like it, you don't wear it if you don't like it.
I still don't understand why people need to go the extra mile just to give a brand a bad name. I think there are other motivation behind that. |

Jose has good insight and articles. Sure there are some vague references, but, show me one time where he was wrong.
|
I own two Panerai. An original 1312 and a 2021 1209. 1312 not going anywhere but this does bother me a bit and will definitely affect my future purchase decisions.
|
I think the mainstream watch press have largely ignored the 9010 issues.
