1316 has small chunk missing from EVERY lug!

Hi,

I have a 1316 brand new from the AD, however I noticed something odd a few months in.

Every single lug has what looks like a tiny chunk missing. What is odd is that the mark exists on all 4 lugs in the exact same spot. At first I thought I did it but no change of doing it 4 times in the same place!

Not too bothered, just wondered if this is normal or if mine is special

Thanks

I would assume that is a manufacturing issue. I have no clue but look forward to seeing what other members have to add.

When you drag your fingernail across each one of those areas, does it feel like a smooth, shallow depression?

Or like a “chip” with sharp edges?

I’m asking because I don’t see a chunk missing - it’s more like the marks made if the case was pressed too hard into a jig/holder. That would cause symmetrical depressions rather than a set of sharp dings.

Once the case/lugs are finished, brushed, and inspected during manufacture, the only steps remaining that I can imagine is installing the movement and stem, screwing down the caseback, and attaching the strap. A worker could have used a jig to hold the case during any of those steps.

Definitely doesn’t look right to me … the polish on the top surface should at least match the rest of the lug :2:

Its like a graze more than anything. In a holder probably makes sense. It is very minor so no stress. I have had far worse from a brand new watch that this!

i am super disappointed with panerai lately. it's dying what a shame!

the case is mixed polish/brush like a mutant zebra
the bezel wiggles
the movement doesnt hack

even the old eta pocket watch movements were relatively better

“the case is mixed polish/brush like a mutant zebra”, what did you mean by this exactly?

i have seen a review online of a 42mm submersible that had the lugs and the sides of the case brushed

but the middle of the case was polished.

where as the whole case was supposed to be polished and only the side of the lug brushed
