Panerai watches.
 

I like the dial styles, and colors. However, size, and crown guard protector turn me off. For those who have both, a Rolex, and a Panerai, how often do wear the Panerai over the Rolex?

I wear my Panerai watches about equally to my Rolex. I adore both brands and their iconic designs. Both watches will never be mistaken for any other brand because of their iconic style.

I had PAM104 and it got lots of compliments, but I ultimately found it to be top heavy and not that comfortable on the wrist and flipped it for a Speedy!

I like the “ Due “ model. Nice size of 38mm. I wish it didn’t have the crown guard protector.

No issues for me with the Pam104. It’s my classic looking Panerai model as it has all the elements I look for. I do wear my Pam 661 Carbotech more as it’s just a badazz looking model that is ultra lightweight and doesn’t scratch or show marks. It also appeals to my engineering side with its high tech materials for luxury watch construction. It gets a lot of compliments from all demographics. :thumbsup:

Just got rid of my last Panerai. Had a 1950 GMT, both the rose gold, and steel Luminor chrono and the 42mm Sub white dial. Ultimately the sizing was just too big and the more modern Panerai were just not up to the quality of the old ones.

I probably wore either a Panerai, Vacheron, Patek or Glashutte about 20% of the time. The rest were Rolexes.

I've had the Radiomir 8 Days - 45mm PAM00992 for about 3 years. Only worn maybe 3 or 4 times. Great watch but don't like the size for me even with the old school lugs and don't like the strap buckle its too big. I have a 6.75" wrist.

I have three 44mm Panerai as well as Rolexes. I wear the Panerai and Rolex at about a 50/50 split, the Panerai more in the winter, the Rolex more in the summer, not as a strategy just by circumstance. The Panerai are often more comfortable and relaxed to wear but the Rolex have their joys as well. I mocked Panerai relentlessly for years, I picked up my bias over on the Rolex Fotum I guess, until I stumbled on a used PAM 111 in a Rolex AD and put it on. The angels sang, now I have a set. I was wrong about everything I thought I disliked about Panerai. Don’t let the dimensions chase you away, with the right leather strap they float on the wrist and are a joy to wear.

I have a sub, BLRO and pam 111, and I wear the pam 50% of the time and the other 2 split 50/50.

I’ve had 5 Rolex over the years and I largely gravitate toward Panerai. For me, I think Panerai is just more fun. I like the designs and I like the nuances of all the different models. In that regard, I find Rolex a little boring. I also love the world of straps and how straps change everything.

I have a small wrist (6.25”) and I love the big 47mm PAMs. Like you, I generally don’t love the crown guard either. However, there are plenty of incredible PAMs without crown guards that still ooze with Panerai DNA. I would recommend looking into the 1940 Radiomir case and the wirelug Radiomirs:

I say go for it and jump down the Panerai rabbit hole and never look back!

the size, the crown guard are all part of the design of panerai. if you feel after wearing it is too big for you. the regular sized watches are better

Its a fashion statement of a watch. Especially in Italy where it is designed. Amy fashionista type wear a Panerai. It is a beautiful, unique and distinct brand. I have had many over the years, from having four Panerai at once to selling them all. Once they were all gone, I had a void that I could not get past and finally decided to add a Panerai back in the line up. This finally satisfied me in a way I cannot explain. Just love the aesthetics and comfort of Panerai.

Panerai is a unique brand and has enough different offerings and sizes that you could find a cool watch should the brand appeal to you. I am a Panerai fan and currently own the 233,317,992 and the 389. The strap game is real and while they do not displace my Rolex watches they add an alternative.

Sold off all but my PAM372 (regret selling the 127 and 233). It’s proven as reliable as any of my watch brands. What’s always attracted me to the brand was the involvement of winding the manual movement and the history of the brand.

You don’t like the size or device that protects the crown? I would say Panerai is not for you. Nothing wrong with that. Plenty of brands out there. :thumbsup:

I bought my first Panerai some years back and it was a beautiful feeling. I really liked it until I added a Rolex to the collection.

Started with Panerai and at a certain point thought to have Rolex in my collection. Bought two, worn them a few months and now its Panerai again every day.

I have probably 12 or so watches in my collection with 3 being Panerai and 3 being Rolex. Panerai is just about my daily wearer; I'd say 85-90% of the time wouldn't be an exaggeration.

i wear panerai 90% of the time. when i put on rolex i find them boring. when i want regular sized watches. i go for omega.

Always had Rolex. Now 3 neo-vintage Panerai; Luminor, Submersible & Radiomir

I only have this one and I love wearing it. Panerai has a very unique look which draws me to the brand. If you don't like the crown guard, have a look at a Radiomir ...

As others have said, plenty of other brands to scratch your itch if these don't float your boat:cheers:

Nice picture of some great watches.

Have 3 rolexes (sea dweller, Explorer2, GMT) and 5 panerai (005, 217, 212,317, 424). the panerai get way more wrist time. just more pleasant to look at with the ease of changing straps, its like a new watch. and i try to vary the characteristics of the panerai when buying. things like dome or no dome, steel or ceramic, brushed or polished, date or no date, etc. Great options across the panerai line.

Out of the two brands you asked about, I own 3 Rolex and 3 Panerai. Panerai is and has been my daily for years. I will occasionally wear a Rolex, but it's Panerai 99% of the time. I just love the heft and how they wear. I've worn a 968 daily since I got it back in Nov, a Submariner feels so tiny now, lol.

I love the legibility and simplicity of Panerai Base watches, and their luminosity. Usable every moment would it be night and day, and during any activity \o/ Good point for me, Panerai has a good after sales department now, it's easy to send watch without going to an AD, and they can even laser weld inside the factory.
