I hadn’t worn my Panerai 000 since the start of COVID and realized that it had been almost 10 years since it was last serviced. I made a mental note to bring it in to my local AD where I purchased the watch back in 2010. This mental note took almost 2 years for me to remember, and I finally brought it in for service about a month ago.
I brought my wife along with me to the jewelry store so we could grab a coffee before picking the kids up from school. In order to get to the service area of the store you need to walk through the Rolex boutique (how convenient). The service department had a gentleman dropping off his vintage Patek for service and he had just sat down before I arrived. An SA swooped in and told me it would be around a 20 minute wait for the service department to be available to assist me. I told her I could grab a coffee and swing back in a little later. She told me I could kill time by hanging out in the Rolex boutique. The seed was planted. I told her I wasn’t in the market to purchase anything and would only be looking. I was wearing my 14060 Submariner and was curious how the new ones stacked up to my “old” one. After a quick peak, I thanked her for her time and asked if the service department was ready for me. She checked and said they still weren’t finished with the gentleman from earlier. What happened next took me by surprise. She asked if I was interested in purchasing any watch on display. I told her I wasn’t mentally prepared (or researched) to make a purchase that day but I would take another look at some Datejusts. They had every flavor of them. I thought I liked the 36MM DJ two tone with champagne dial. But after trying on a bunch of 41MM motif dials I found the one that spoke to me… My wife said “do it!”. I walked out a few minutes later with my first two tone piece. And we still made it to school pickup on time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks everyone! I tried on the two tone blue and gold motif dials with jubilee bands, but they were just a little too busy for my taste.
I told myself my next Rolex was going to be sporting a jubilee, but something about the oyster bracelet just felt right. I know it isn’t the classic DJ combination. I turn 40 next year and plan to add a birth year Pepsi GMT on jubilee. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

nice story! unplanned purchases are really fun. But what is surprising is the saleperson trying to get you to buy a rolex. I recall they wouldnt even talk about selling a role only sometime ago.

Congratulation!

That’s a great looking combo. I have the TT yellow gold slate Romans dial, also on oyster, AKA Wimbledon, with fluted bezel, which I also got, as a walk in. Sometime, when you least expect it, you get a new Rolex. Congrats!
