What Xmas treats do you indulge in?

For festive delicacies there's Panettone [Italian], Pandoro [Italian], Stollen [German], Yule log [French].

For traditional drinks there's Eggnog [British].

Homemade Christmas cookies.

SpeakWithMichael 11 October 2024 10:36 AM

Turrón, ideally Suchard chocolate.

I am a drinks light beer kind of guy. Doesn’t matter if it’s a Tuesday, the New Year, my birthday, your birthday, Jesus’ birthday, I’m drinking light beer.

Sugar cookies, Christmas cake, stollen, rum and eggnog. Goodnight.

Blansky 11 October 2024 11:14 AM

Home made cookie care packages from the in-laws and B52 Coffees to counteract the brutal California winters.

AzPaul 11 October 2024 11:14 AM

In my family, we always have these crescent shaped, walnut stuffed cookies called sambousek. And they are to die for.

Wcdhtwn 11 October 2024 11:22 AM

Cookies. Christmas=cookies.

I do like eggnog and maybe some Bailey’s in my coffee Christmas Eve and Christmas mornings. Oddly, I drink a lot of coffee those mornings.

Dr.Stu 11 October 2024 11:29 AM

Williams Sonoma peppermint bark. (Can't keep it in the house!)

hambone1983 11 October 2024 11:51 AM

Frederic Loraschi chocolate. Unbelievable.

Funny story here…

One year my wife made Christmas cookies for our dogs.

My son and I come home, and we see them spread out on the counter top. So we decided to try them. lol

We were literally gagging and talking about how awful they were. We had no idea they were for the dogs. I remember saying, “there is something seriously wrong with these.”

We still talk about that every Christmas. BTW, my wife actually makes really good cookies for humans, too.

Sadly my wife can't bake so no homemade Xmas cookies.

What Xmas cookies do y'all suggest? Any special kind?

That is hilarious Krash.

Heavily iced sugar cookies are my favorite. Also (there are a million names for these) but Mexican Wedding Cookies, or as I know them in Greek, Kourambiethes.

They are great. The more powdered sugar the better. Just don't inhale when you take a bite or you'll cough and sent sugar flying everywhere. Yes, this is the voice of experience.

UNwrapping my 'present'. Admire the 'wrapping'. Slowly loosen the top bow...

That is an incredibly difficult question, mainly because it depends massively on what your particular preference is with turrón. Turrón encompasses a very, very wide variety of flavors, textures, hardness or softness, with alcohol, without alcohol, with fruit, without fruit, with nuts, without nuts, etc. Saying turrón could be the equivalent of naming a category of food such as cakes - it's that diverse. I'm more a fan of a medium soft, nutty, chocolatey turrón without alcohol. But there's probably a thousand different variants and companies that make turrón. Therefore, a good start would be to go in and have the store assistant get you 5-10 completely different kinds encompassing the most popular, and start narrowing down your preferences.

Blondies - they are a blonde brownie (no chocolate) that has a light butterscotch flavor.

QuONFuCaC - sounds like a soccer conference but is an acronym for a no-bake drop cookie made with cocoa, butter, cream, sugar, peanut butter and oatmeal. All in one saucepan - the oatmeal's stirred in last to a boiling mix of the other ingredients. That seizes it up and it cools into fudgy textured tasty lumps of joy. Superb

Lots more but I'm getting hungry thinking about it. :chuckle:

Pumpkin Pie and Tamales

The Bellagio used to have Chef Jean Phillipe's brownie recipe on their site. I printed it out and buy random peppermint candies from the Publix holiday food display and get creative.....and the Starbucks Christmas items.

And my favorite, my grandmother used to make peppermint ice cream when I was a kid. Most of the family has passed on and the rest of us are kinda scattered, I have the Kitchenaid ice cream gizmo for my mixer, so I make her ice cream and get mildly nostalgic about the 80s.

Cookies, chocolate, pies. I have no discipline from Thanksgiving through Christmas.

cdmorenot 13 October 2024 12:25 PM

Every holiday season I buy a whole Jamón Ibérico (Spanish Jamón) lasts me through January depending on how many people stop by the house throughout the holiday season.
