Anyone else leave X/Twitter (no politics)

Anyone else leave X after using it for years? I just couldn’t do it anymore. I found myself becoming increasingly negative because of it. Finally had to leave. My only social media is now instagram and it’s only watches and men’s fitness stuff. I miss it as a source of news from all the various channels in one place but man, it’s brutal in there.

I still like X but on there sparingly. I am on IG much more but that is mostly for Jiu Jitsu my main passion in life as well as watches of course. I still find a lot of interesting stuff on X and I keep everything in perspective.

THC 8 April 2025 08:21 AM

Never had (or will) any social media, except TRF

austinp 8 April 2025 08:24 AM

Currently don’t have X but I’m considering it due to my sports team news always breaks there.

What changed?

I've never been on X, IG, or TikTok. I've heard Twitter was brutal to some, now X is brutal.

AF_Rob 8 April 2025 08:58 AM

Never made an account, likely never will. People are getting crazier by the week. Already pulled pack a lot on other platforms.

lol totally. If you want to be on one side or another of any discussion, the algorithm will place you in the echo chamber.

I really miss some of the cool accounts i followed that would post American history stuff or these random ancient artifacts. Thing i would never run across without it.

There is a lot of good stuff on there. Just like IG I follow what I want and ignore the all the crap!

codecow 8 April 2025 09:52 AM

Cancelled it many years ago.

I used it only professionally for the most part.

I laughed when I got my first death threat but then as the doxing got bad with all the nut cases out there it wasn’t worth anything I was getting out of it.

Same here, not interested in any of the platforms

alllexandru 8 April 2025 05:23 PM

dont have x , had twitter but for short period of time
still using IG and rarely FB

Dubshack 8 April 2025 05:37 PM

I take it for what it is. The good, the bad, the ugly.

If you get tired of the algorithm, I like the ability to only see posts from those I follow.

No Twitter no Facebook, I come on this forum just to look at watches and spout rubbish 99% of the time, I’m not controlled by any social media … I certainly wouldn’t want to be bothered by the content, political or not … in my day before the interweb we sat and talked to each other, nowadays someone can by John J Rambo at the end of his/her fingertips - so Jane J Rambo …
I like to conversate face to face, and certainly not air my grievances all over social media …

brandrea 8 April 2025 07:36 PM

I use You Tube mostly. The other platforms aren’t as interesting IMHO.

supernova 8 April 2025 07:54 PM

Unfortunately most online platforms are becoming swamps, even LinkedIn is starting to get flooded with personal political views. Main one I use is just IG and personal friends only to see some holiday snaps or what their eating for breakfast :)

BraveBold 8 April 2025 08:19 PM

Twitter and the rest provide megaphones (“platforms”) to the loudest, self-marketed, promoted or popular voices. Nothing to do with quality of thought or how informed (or informative) their opinions are.

As a result, the digested content (weighted by popularity) is mostly unfiltered garbage.

The only positive is immediacy of some raw data, though even then, there are usually better and more reliable sources.

Throw in the algorithms that drive consumption that in turn amplify already-damaging echo chambers, and … well, society would be far, far better off without them entirely.

I don’t use that crap except for the headlines that may feed into general google search results.

travisb 8 April 2025 10:05 PM

Never had it.

ndirish2001 8 April 2025 10:15 PM

I gave it up years ago for the sake of my mental health. The platform I use the most is Reddit and I consume almost exclusively watch content. Every once in a while I’ll venture into the algorithmic feed on Reddit, but the rest of the time I’m just following my selected interests.

1William 8 April 2025 10:15 PM

Never had it. Never will.

padi56 8 April 2025 10:34 PM

Tried so called social media once not for so don't belong to any of these so called social media sites and never will as many now are un-social media sites.

330ci 8 April 2025 10:36 PM

Nope; better things to do with my time than join political cult groups on either side which is all the internet is good for hosting these days. I think the twitter takeover is a perfect example of how manipulated society at large is by social media. When all it takes is a name and algorithm change to rewrite the landscape of a business, seems as though the users are quite easily manipulated to me.

Wasn’t apart of twitter because it was too far left, not apart of X because it’s too far right. All of y’all are clowns in my opinion.

Politics are best summed up as a “heads I win, tails you lose” game.

as such this country is going nowhere fast and once millennials and Gen Z take over the workforce the country is going to implode faster than an Oceangate sub.

AI is the enemy of free speech and the internet hasn’t been a place to speak freely for atleast 10 years now. The 2 party system is critically flawed and I genuinely imagine we end up with a third party rising as AI becomes more prevalent in society as both parties suffer from inner conflict at this point. There’s always been these complaints about twitter/x from its inception. Just depends on what side of the fence you lie

And before anyone calls me out; according to the previous comments all of these implications made previously were obvious and unnecessary to state. So while you all want to beat around the bush; I’ll call a spade a spade.

Understanding how they work is kind of fun. But it is a manipulation game a lot of the time.

Rage bait is the easiest way to get engagement. Which is why I just avoid it these days. What a miserable way to get information.

Thanks for the summary.

In my day, a man's comments were tempered by the reality that trolls got punched in the mouth for being offensive. There are no existential consequences to being an offensive jerk on the internet and a**holes that would be beaten down in the old days are allowed to flourish today.

OG1982 8 April 2025 11:34 PM

Yes, when the paid blue ticks were introduced, the quality of tweet comments plummeted. Mainly OF girls promoting their content.

Go be insufferable elsewhere if you don’t have anything non political to discuss (sound familar?).

Read the rules.

enjoythemusic 9 April 2025 12:22 AM

i miss CompuServe's Ourworld and various BBS systems. When the world felt a bit smaller, and the quality was far higher.

I found his discussion quite informative. Were you offended?
