Price question NTTD Bond watch
 

Finally tried on the NTTD at an Omega dealer. Great watch. I just saw a For sale on the Omega forum. There is more than one post offering a brand new , unworn watch priced 2 k below retail. I recognize one of these sellers from the Rolex forum. How is this possible? Does this watch lose value that badly in the secondary market? I appreciate all replies.

Omega sells their watches to AD and Boutiques. The Boutiques only sell at MSRP. ADs will discount, depending on the popularity of the watch.

The used watch dealer buys from an AD and receives a large discount because they buy in quantity and regularly. The used watch dealer marks up the watch and still makes money.

They are watches that people bought and later sold or traded to a grey dealer. They greys are not going to pay anywhere close to retail for this watch. If you are concerned with resale value, never buy Omega new.

Not concerned with resale value. I like the watch. Just wondering why it would be such a big gap from Boutique to grey. I have never bought from grey market and I am leery. Thanks for the reply.

It's just the typical cycle. When a watch is first released there is a big rush to buy them at full retail price. Then over time people get bored with them or whatever and they start hitting the pre-owned market. And eventually secondary prices settle below retail. This is normal for most Omega releases. Only a few manufacturers (Rolex, PP, AP) seem to be able to sell for higher than MSRP on the secondary market.

It really makes no sense to purchase one at full retail.

In the UK these are £9,800 and I just bought one via EBay authentication for £4,500 very good condition.

It’s a fantastic watch! So light and under the radar which is key in Europe where safety is unfortunately a concern now

Such is the watch market. Buy the seller and I would look slightly pre-owned and complete. Save around 2.5-3k off new and have a great watch.

Don't buy from the OB. Buy gently used or even brand new in box (BNIB) - will be much cheaper. Then treat yourself to a luxurious dinner!

This thread is convincing me to do just that. First time buying from a grey market dealer. Trying to assess the trustworthy ones. I appreciate any advice.

Look to our large TS here on TRF. DavidSW is my go to but I have done good deals with most and always use them as an alternative. Remember, asking price and getting price are too different things so call up and have a respectful conversation. Ask all your questions and once you are comfortable make a reasonable offer, pay, and have the watch tomorrow by lunch. David has two NTTD watches up right now but I would think he has more in inventory. Let us know how you proceed.

It’s not that the NTTD is unpopular—it’s just that limited editions (even Bond ones) don’t always hold MSRP in the secondary market. ADs moved a lot of them, and now supply’s outpacing demand a bit. Great watch if you buy right, though.

Nice watch but believe me if you think “Europe” has a safety problem you should visit some other continents!

London , Paris, Barcelona.. just to name a few European cities where watch crime is a very real problem.

I’ve lived and traveled extensively in Asia and never felt more safe.

I understand the Middle East is perfectly safe also.

What other continent would you say has a greater watch specific issue?

Not a watch to buy "new" unless $$$$ is irrelevant, then do whatever is least effort to acquire .
