Hmm I don’t know if you’re grandchild will share the sentiment of “my grandfather was able to afford to keep this brand new in box” and in the same way that you see it - in 20 years it will just be an old (but new) watch. I would guess he would want the latest and greatest as most do these days.
If I were going down that route I would give him my watch that’s he’s actually seen me wearing over the last 20 years - I think that would be more sentimental.
Regardless it’s your decision to make and I’m sure he won’t turn his nose up at it. It’s nice to do nice things for people regardless :)
