Easier to sell with papers, so factor that in.

I think that for a modern watch, it’s a necessity, who’s not keeping those in this day and age.

For a vintage, it’s not necessary but they do have value, if that makes sense. A watch from the 50s or 60s with associated papers and a receipts would be a lot more valuable to me, even if they aren’t necessary.
It would have been cool to have the original receipt to my grandfather’s watch
