It's pretty simple - it's illegal to use tritium unless it's contained in tubes, as it is in the Marathon and Luminox. A Rolex with tritium tubes would look pretty bad. Rolex stopped using tritium in 1998 when it was banned. And while tritium has the advantage of glowing without being exposed to a light source, it only has a half life of 12 years, and even when new it doesn't glow as brightly as luminova, so I don't know that luminova is actually "inferior".
