The blue color of my 5980 happens to be my favorite color and hue. Like a dark blue sapphire. It dates back to when I was a kid in the 70's and for whatever reason fell in love with a color of ink by Sheaffer "Skrip" called Blue-Black. Funny how you remember random moments and things...
Anyway, while I love the color and its ability to change in different lights, I stop short of calling it mesmerizing. But to each their own...
As for the white dial, I didn't like it in pictures until I saw it in person. Then I knew I didn't like it. If only I hadn't read descriptions of it's resemblance to a garage door or shutters, I might like it more.
But that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about those!
One more thought: I originally wanted a black dial 5980 because I wanted the red chrono hand and the date window with white on black. I "settled" for the blue dial because my trade made sense to both parties. Now having owned the blue dial I can say I would not trade it for the same with a black dial. Still love the red chrono hand though...
