I think PatrickJ needs to read this thread.

The 2016 Explorer is closer to the original 1016, with the lumed numerals for better legibility in the dark.

And it does appear sharper in pictures.

But in person, the WG 3-6-9 is very stunning.

The Explorer is a great watch, can't go wrong with either model imho.
