I actually quite like the blue dial on the 1312 and don't think it'll cause too many problems with different straps. The strap colours I have in mind are blue, cream, brown and black and I think the blue dial will work with all of those.
I also agree with the point made about the PAM 631. There is a price difference but it's not that large and I think if I'm going to spend the money, I'd rather buy something that I really like.
