I've also been told the nicks and scratches are a good sign that the watch is legit and has actually been worn in the wild and is better than an alleged three year old watch that is perfectly pristine. Serial number indicates the watch was made in 2013, and sales receipt shows purchase in early 2014.

Not to be rude, but if a watch can be faked, don't you think a receipt can? I have seen tons of fake boxes being sold.
If the watch is real, it's real...forget the other stuff. If you are not confident enough in the seller or your ability to tell...have it authenticated.
