A lot of people here will guide you to the base models for your first and with good reason. However, they're not for me so I didn't go there. Head to a boutique if there's one in travelling distance, or a well-stocked AD and try as many as you can.
Assuming your wrist can take the 1950 Luminor, my recommendation would be 312 or 359. If you're going for a one and only and money is not an issue, 233.
