There are things you can try without doing any permanent harm. Your 18038 (if you correctly dated the watch from its serial number) has a single quickset movement (3055) that allows setting the date independent of the hour hands, but not the day of the week. As a result, changing the day displayed at 12 o’clock requires moving the time forward past midnight. I believe someone may have done the day-setting process incorrectly.
Try pulling out the crown to the 3rd position and move the hands backwards past 12 o’clock at least twice. Then move them forward and if all else is good with the movement’s day and date wheels the day and a date should appear correctly.
If that works then go ahead and set the date and work your way around to the right day per normal process for a single quickset.
