Finally got around to taking some pics of the X6M once the little touches were completed.

I tinted the windows, blacked out the wheels, blacked out the reflector and put on the pinstripe.

The pinstripe really works on this car. It was a random thought to even do it. Not sure I have seen one in forever. But it suits the lines so very nicely.

Again, I question the value of the Turbo GT or the Urus when I drive this. It sounds great. the performance is certainly comparable, and the tech is better than both. I use CarPlay so I don't really have idrive in my face.

It unlocks and locks based on proximity. I have a credit card key I can put in my wallet. The seat heaters heat up arm rest. And I even have hot or cold button for the drinks cup holder. The display is way big and super clear. I love how easy it is to configure different drive modes as well. With a flick of my right thumb, this thing turns into an animal. When I want to go chill...flick my left thumb.

I think it looks super. It certainly does not have the sex appeal that comes with a Urus or even the Turbo GT. But gosh darn, this car does it all so well. I am starting to become a BMW convert.

I might change my mind once I get back into the Urus. But for now, I am really enjoy this car. However, the snow here and the summer tires really do not mix well. I was all over the place. Having a good time? Yes. But fearful to crash the whip as well. It was dicey that first morning on my way to the office.

Anyway, big big fan.

AWD won’t do much if using summer tires on snow…

You are certainly right.

But the hope really is that I’m rarely in jersey for the cold months.

Has anyone gone from Porsche to McLaren (specifically a 570GT)? Curious if there are reasons why one shouldn’t even consider a McLaren.

I had Blizzaks on a RWD BMW 320i

Did not help much. Quite a long time ago, maybe Blizzaks are better. I would never buy rear wheel drive in a snowy area. Or be prepared to stay home or drive Plan B.
Fortunately, Seth has AWD, although poster above says summer tires don’t help.

Correct, summer tires plus awd are inferior to all seasons or (obviously) winter tires and 2wd.

This assumes on snow, obviously.

Summer tires in sub 40f temps (without snow) are also dismal but “less bad” until temps start falling further. They harden or “glassify”… in fact, having summer tires freeze can alone cause issues (worsened the colder they get), especially after multiple freeze-thaw cycles.

Everyone’s experience will be different but I have run multiple RWD cars through buffalo winters (911 m3 etc) and I will take a RWD German car with snow tires over an AWD or 4WD with questionable all seasons or summers.

I don’t think I have had many vehicles better in the snow than my AWD x5’s equipped with blizzaks. This is a whole nother beast of course being the x6m comp.

My BMW RWD with Blizzaks experience was in the 1990s. Maybe something was different or it was my driving shortcomings, but I remember sliding without control on snow and ice. Now a driver of Mercedes C300 4matic. I do favor German cars’ handling.

Well done my friend! I agree with everything you said about BMW. The X5 M really changed my mind and sold me on BMW being really really good / great!…at least as far as the SUV segment goes.
Sharp spec, love the color! (And the subtle stripe)

But you cannot compare winter tires and RWD to summer tires… whatever sliding you did in the 90s with rwd, multiply by 2 or 3x and that would be the result on summer tires. They simply don’t grip.

Also, an FYI that awd does essentially nothing for stopping distance. That is determined by tire compound/tread pattern/condition and size (width) along with vehicle mass. Something far too many SUV or other AWD drivers seem to misunderstand…

Good point. I have an F250SD with 4x4. It's four wheel drive, not four wheel stop. Once the tires break traction it's a sleigh ride waiting for contact to bring it to a sudden stop.

Great spec Seth! That car lloks great. A BMW may be in the cards for us this year and your's is inspiring.

I learned long ago, AWD means nothing if you have the wrong tires.

I was in an Audi S4 with a manual transmission, on a first date, in the snow. It was a wild ride, and I was super confused. I thought it would drive like the Subaru Outback I had prior to that.

Incredibly, the Outback treated Boston winters like a Sunday stroll. I realized after the date upon doing a bit of research.

Good, appropriate tires, are so incredibly important.

But in Jersey these days, it is really pretty rare that it will be wet and snowy and slippery.

Then again, I am super sensitive to cold tires as well. I have seen too many guys coming out of cars and coffees or on Sunday drives that do not know the power of their cars and with cold tires, it compounds the challenge.

Moral of the story? Buy a lot of cars. As many as you can.

Where is smily face emoji when you need it.

Funny you used the word in a different context, but it is extremly true.

The compound of the rubber in extreme tempatures is more important than the thread type.

Proper tires with a proper driver on a rwd balanced vehicle are better 10/10 times vs inexperienced driver with no seasons or bald winters on a AWD based vehicle, PERIOD.

no doubt about it.

I would take any car with winter or even all season tires, rather than an SUV or even a tank of some sort with summer tires.

I just spent 30 mins helping a usps driver who got stuck on a neighbor’s driveway. Tires were no good… no grip.

I don’t drive my sports cars when temps drop below 45 or so…Fahrenheit lol.

Slightly different take on this thread. Mixing a favorite vintage Alfa of mine, a classic, and a favorite modern Rolex, a future classic. I might match up other watches to car photos in the future. Photos are from the Assouline book.

My neighbor did that, went from a 911 Turbo S to a McL 6...something, which was very nice, fast, etc. but he traded it in on another 911 once the warranty ran out on the McL. He would have it trailered to the dealer (we're a few hours from there) for the annual service, which was a couple of grand, I believe. Porsche dealer is literally 5 minutes from here and I don't know what the annual service costs on that (I'm a DIY'r) but I'm pretty sure it's less than a grand.

AFAIK he had no issues with the McLaren.
