Ushuaia area. Planning some future travel …

Preliminary fact finding / planning.

Anyone been down to Ushuaia / Tierre del Fuego / Rio grande.

Looking for some broad strokes / recommendations.

What to avoid and musts to see

Thinking about making the trip March of 2026 (life and health permitting)

Thanks for any recommendations

It’s cold down there! Dress appropriately. I recommend a visit to Tierra del Fuego national park.

It’s a beautiful area. I second the recommendation for the national park.
Memorable hiking story: i signed up for a guided glacier hike…was a bit spur of the moment so didn’t really do any research. What wasn’t described was the 4 hour mud slog both ways to reach the glacier! 2 hours crossing sort of a river delta, jumping over and fording dozens of streams…then 2 hours climb through a beautiful temperate rainforest…but about the muddiest trail I’ve ever been on. And so slippery coming down. We had a bet that anyone who made it down without a muddy wipeout drank for free that night…no one was even close to collecting.
But the scenery was awesome and it was definitely a memorable day. Also really good seafood in town.
Another recommendation: if you are down that way, try to get to Torres del Paine in Chile. It’s about the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.

Never been to Argentinian Patagonia but loved it down south in Chile. Lasting memories from a one week hike with tent and all in Torres del Paine National Park. Scenery as beautiful as it comes.

Will keep that in mind Brian.
Took a motorcycle along the queenshead some years back on my way to Alaska. It wasn’t that cold in July. the 24 hours of sunlight was an adjustment.

I can only recommend reading Uttermost Part of the Earth by Lucas Bridges before you go.

Absolutely stunning. Spent our honeymoon there. Only later did it occur to me what a huge ask that was of my wife, as she had never been backpacking.
