Indeed, it is a two tone jubilee that GMT masters and DateJusts etc used to sit on. Can be 62523.H14 (14K gold; earlier 4-digit models, before 1980) or 62523.H18 (18K gold, after 1980).

That being said, these older clasps also has a date code with 1-2 letters (designating the year) and 1-2 numbers (designating the month).

Hi. I have a DJ 36mm two-tone. Running on the 3035 movement. It doesn't have the ORIG ROLEX DESIGN at 12 o'clock, so I brought it to my local AD where they confirmed it was an original, but they didn't offer much of an explanation, as they were quite busy. It's around 1987. I would appreciate any help as there's not a lot on the net. Cheers in advance.

Icon20 Serial number question

Hey, in new to this forum and new to the watch world. I had a question about the serial numbers of the rolex GMT master II. I was looking at the 126710. (1267) being the Rolex GMT master II and the 0 at the end means it's made in stainless steel but I was wondering what the 1 in-between means. Does that have anything to do with the bezel?

Stolen Rolex

I just shipped a Rolex for the first time, and looks like it never left the post office where I mailed it from. Thankfully it is fully insured. Is there a Rolex database where the serial number can be listed as stolen? Does anyone here have any experience with such a thing?

Thanks in advance

Yes I have some experience with that + with getting some of my stolen ones back.

First get a copy of your Police Report. I doubt they will issue one until the carrier you used deems it stolen.

Then call the NYC Rolex Service Center (212) 758-7700 - tell the attendant who answers that you wish to report your missing/stolen watch. You will be transferred to the correct department to get it into their global database.

I have recovered 2 of the 4 that were burgled from my home.

If you accept the Insurance reimbursement, they become the owner of it when/if it is recovered.

Hi, I am looking into buying a Datejust 116231 the 8 digit Serial starts with an "A". I see that watches from 99-2000 serials start with an "A" but this one has the serial engraved in the Rehaut so I assume it is much newer model. Is it just a coincidence that the 8 digit serial starts with an "A"?

Rehaut engraving started in 2005. Random serial numbers started in 2010. So, Yes, most likely it’s a random serial #. Ask the seller how old it is. No docs?

Hi all,
quite a Rolex newbie here.
I have a Datejust 16200 with X407xxx as serial.
Charts tell me that it should be from 1991, but according to many others it could be also from 1992-93 because serial X is different and covers a larger period of time.
Since I have no papers, can you help me to date my watch?
Thanks a lot for reading and helping.

Thanks anyway.

Old thread yes I know but I just picked up a early 60's PCG 5512 case with a 66XXXX and once again had to put my forensics coat and gloves on. For me it's all 100% guilty until proven innocent both with complete watches and parts and depending on which reference I use, it's either a 1959, 1960 or 1961. And in verifying legitimacy, the engraving during the late 50's - early 60's is very shocking, almost appearing fake. It literally looks as if, a Rolex worker at the time had undiagnosed Parkinson's.

During this period I've learned the 66 serial had "Registered Design" on the bottom and the reference number on top. I find myself enjoying the research because I learn of the varying differences in production even withing a small time frames. At this point in my vintage collecting journey, I feel I'm well beyond the "why is it a 5513 with a 5512 caseback" question.

The fight is real with with vintage parts and in my quest to own a pointed crown guard submariner, I've came across a few Vietnam cases that were obviously hand aged and fairly convincing at face value yet in all the extremes they go through they miss one mundane detail like no 5512 or 5513 ever had a relief shelf cutout a the nine o'clock like the 1680 and latter models for ease of the movement to drop out and install.

My reasons for wanting to build a PCG sub rather than buy one outright is two fold, one of course is while later 5512's and 5513' can be picked up in decent condition for 10k, the short run 1959 - 1963 pointed crown guard era when Rolex was first attempting to nail the shape of the crown guards, the starting prices of these short run models, with a few rare exceptions, begin at $20k which is something I cannot stomach especially being retired and two, I have come across so many 5513's and 5512's with what I am sure is fake or non matching parts like dials and other questionable period parts so with me sourcing out period correct part by part, I know when it's on my wrist, it will be all genuine Rolex.

Finally, Franken some say? In this case I'd argue not even close. If I take the exact period correct parts and re-assembled them to build a complete watch again, one I never plan on selling, I don't care what anyone else thinks. Because I took up watchmaking to enhance my joy of the collection hobby I'll be doing all the work myself and my budget has been on track for an under $8K build so that's the huge plus in placing a 1959 - 1963 PCG Sub in my collection.
