DD40 Ombre vs AP15202ST

Recently have been blessed to be in the position to add a heavy hitter into the arsenal.. I have been enamored by the new ombre dials and while it was extremely tough to choose the between the 3 I personally decided that the YG Green Ombre was the one for me.

This now brings up the question on whether I go with the YG ombre vs a 15202ST which was always a "grail" watch for me as well. Obviously 2 very, very different pieces.

Assume a 1 watch collection here. I don't really daily anything as I don't find it appropriate to wear these type of watches in my line of work.

What would YOU choose and why?

The Day-Date. Because is that special. PM over SS, a more striking dial that in combination with YG will never cease to amaze every time you'll put it on your wrist. I also don't like it when a watch has no seconds hand, like with that AP.

I would definitely choose the DD40!
The Yellow Gold Green Ombré would be absolutely stunning.
The DD40 to me is the pinnacle of Rolex Collecting. Don’t get me wrong the 15202 is a grail worthy piece that definitely has a place in a collection, but the DD40 is what you’re needing!!

Had multiple AP over the years and would pick the DD over the two.

The Day Date, especially in that configuration is a statement piece. The AP will be a little more under the radar (relatively speaking).

In your situation I’d go with your grail

Wow, tough choice since you said it would be a one watch collection.

I personally looooove both these watches. Love them.

I’d lean towards the 15202 since it is arguably more special and more versatile than the DD.

I don’t think I’d want a one watch collection be so flashy as a YG DD.

Also, if you do go the DD route, I’d highly recommend the 36 for better proportions than the 40.

Two totally different watches.

15202ST amazing daily watch and matches everything you can dress it up or down and it always works.

The YG DD for most is not a daily and not a daily

So based on the amount of use unless your in a suit everyday then the 152020 will not sit long in your box

I’m a DD fan but I’d pick the Jumbo over the DD.

16202> DD40>15202. That would be my pick...

AP. I like the design language better, more unique and less pedestrian. Also a little less flashy.

For me I love DD green hombre, however if you can only have one it would be the AP.
DD are for special occasions for me or to wear to a business meeting. Daily not so much.
If you the DD route maybe a beater Hamilton field watch or something of the sort for daily use.

Definitely depends on what your are feeling neither one is a bad choice!

Cheers,

i love DDs and would take one over almost any other watch given the choice but there's just no way i'd be able to daily a yg green ombre lol. DDs are great daily watches and i don't believe in "special occasion" watches, but there are just times you don't want to be wearing a flashy yellow gold watch like that

i would go with the AP here. ROs are pretty much the only watches i hold in equal comparison to DDs and would take over a DD

Love everyone's opinions on the matter. I said to assume a 1 watch collection but I do own some SS pieces as well that are more suitable for a "daily."

Even if I did choose the 15202ST it wouldn't be a daily watch for me as I just wear an apple watch to work anyways.

Anyways, I think I'm leaning towards green ombre more myself as it is more a statement piece which is something I'm definitely lacking.
