Not to pile on, but since you asked OP, as well as everything already mentioned, look at how the wg surrounds touch the 5-min markers. That's not right, either.

[QUOTE=77T;13655327]You're correct, I misunderstood your 2nd post.

There is no doubt about the dial. If your friend had water intrusion or other damage that broke the crystal and the bezel and needed a reasonable price to get his watch working again, then what we see is the outcome.
.Otherwise, barring that thought, then he was swindled by a watchmaker who replaced his dial.

Here is a genuine photo of mine before I sold it. You can compare it.

The dial, the bezel, the bezel insert, the hands and the crystal together with the course rehaut are the reason I think you should check out the engravings and post them before putting any money in this piece. It's good to know for sure what you have so as to make the right move.

To all FOUR of you:

. .I thank you so very much for taking the time to shake my stupid head and basically tell me to "Freaking LOOK at it, brother!!" I also pulled out my pristine 16613LB (2001), and compared, but it really wasn't necessary, once you pointed me in the right direction. I am SO embarrassed that you had to shove it down my throat. I've been collecting for enough years now that I should have looked, but I just ASSUMED that since my buddy had bought it new, and I had the original papers, that it was all still original.
. . Geez, that dial is terrible!!
- No "swiss made" stamp - at all?
- Indices touching the 5 min mark?
- Printing doubled up on the word "PERPERTUAL"?
- Sloppy lume at 6:00?
- And, I just UV'd it, and ... it lights up like a new Luminova!! (certainly NOT '91!).

. .So embarrassed, and thank you to you ALL for helping out. I'll simply return this to the widow (also a friend), and explain. Won't be a problem and she'll give me my $$ back. I'm disappointed because I thought it would be a fun project, and let me wear my buddy's old watch, but even I have limits.

Happy Father's Day, brothers!!

The dial coronet is fake, as well as other points mentioned by other members, therefore the dial is non genuine or fake. No coronet like on this dial can be found on any, I mean any genuine dial. How many vintage members here need to call the dial fake before you accept it for what it is?

If you don’t want to give up just yet, those original dials aren’t too hard to come by.

How cheap was this watch?

Your going to have to redo the whole watch and find a dial? What’s next?

I would pass unless it’s insane cheap?

Hello, jP!
Please see my post, 1 hr prior to this one.
Would you like to see me grovel a little more, before you accept my apology?
Mea culpa!!
(All pointed kidding aside, thank you for your good intentions). 🙏🏼

+1. I'm not an eagle eye but even I noticed the font on "Rolex" on dial did not look legit.

In addition to everything above, I don't love the bracelet/end link engravings either. Could just be the lighting in the photo, but they don't look right.

So, thank you to everyone.
I've "reversed" the deal, and will get my $$ back.
With an aftermarket dial . . . this project just won't be fun anymore.

Appreciate ALL of your inputs, to help me make my decision. All the best, Amigos!

Hi Bob,

I had the pleasure to meet him at his store last year. I have never had a watch serviced by him but he and the employees were all very cordial.
